Art streaming (Spotify for art)
I (finally) launched my iOS app into the App Store!
It was great to see it live and to send the link to friends to download. A huge relief to reach this milestone, but also awareness that the real work starts now.
In hindsight I would have launched earlier, as the initial feedback has already been invaluable to help sort the 'needs' from the 'nice-to-haves', which has been a challenge so far! I'm definitely over-protective of it, and learning to distance myself slightly from that is a good lesson.
My idea came from two places.
Firstly, I was getting into art in a big way, going to galleries and exhibitions and discovering some online art communities. It surprised me just how much incredible, innovative contemporary art is being made, and it was such a positive experience to explore and discover these worlds.
At the same time, I had finally subscribed to Spotify and it transformed my music habits. I could now access pretty much all recorded music, and my discovery of new music skyrocketed. I now have hundreds of playlists of all sorts of music, it opened my eyes to how positive unlimited access could be.
I excitedly looked for the art world equivalent of Spotify - large swathes of contemporary art are natively digital (photography, 3D, abstract, coded, generative, motion etc), so subscription access seemed a no-brainer. But instead, artists are mostly forced to sell via printing services, and the high cost of these restricts access for the average art fan, in the same way that I wouldn't buy more than a few albums a month pre-Spotify. So most people have a small collection of a few prints at home, and this amazing artwork gets seen only on instagram.
I think art is too important to keep restricted, and the positive benefits of having an abundance of art in our daily lives cannot be overstated.
So I started Novari, to make contemporary art part of people’s daily lives so that, together, we can make our world more open, creative and beautiful.

Hi Matt
Maybe your idea would work the other way round, too?
I can imagine artists from around the globe to pay for a worldwide listing...
Curation sections included. Art gallerys in the web. With anotations and references to music, litarature, video. Just what leaps to the mind of the curator and is worthwile kept as an association. Everyone a potential curator? There are similarities to Instagram but it would not be quite the same...
Came here from your 'How to approach validation as a solo founder.' Thanks for the inspiration!
Bye.

Hi Christian, great ideas, thanks! I’m actually doing a review of problem areas in the art world at the moment so that’s food for thought (aiming to generate ideas from them and go through the evaluation - validation process again myself, which was part of the reason for writing it, so glad it’s been useful!).
Best of luck with your own work!
