I created an app that I can share.

I was working a few hours a week after work.
As result, you can see a web app where fronted is written in React with Ant Design components.
I have written backend in .Net Core 5.
The core of the app is the public FoodData Central API.
The app is hosted in Azure and the deployment process is fully automated with Azure DevOps.

Nutrient Info has basic features like:

  • searching by product name
  • searching by brand name
  • table with nutrients details
  • calculated recommended daily value of basic nutrients, vitamins, and minerals
  • pie chart comparing basic nutrients
  • food tags

I know it is not a rocket since however, for me it is a personal achievement.
Most of all, it works and can give someone real value.

Who knows where this project will lead me?

Seems you've made a wrapper for the Food Central https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/
What is a value proposition for your product?

Yeah, this app gives you nothing more than searching through this public API. As I have written this project began as hands-on to improve programming skills. I don't have a clarified vision of this service yet.

I was thinking about an app for dietetics who have to prepare menus for their clients. I can imagine that this app can evolve into something like that. But for now, I'm slowly adding new features.

Maybe you have some ideas to share @Dimmi? I'm open to suggestions :)

Search for existing tools. Professionals already have their software, beginners use the apps like "Meta Nutrition". It's Polish, btw.

I'd suggest to find a real problem and solve it.

    Congrats on releasing something!

I tried loading the URL of your website, it took around a minute to load initially (maybe the server was dormant and had to wake up). After that everything loaded pretty quickly.

It would be nice if you had category list, so I can dive down into a specific category of products and see some examples, or maybe even averages of that category. Comparing two products can also be useful.

I'm using free develop tier in Azure to host the app. It is a reason for a long wake up time as you guessed :-)

Comparing is on my to-do list. I will think about categories.

      Thanks 👍

I wanted to improve my programming skills in my own project. Because I'm really into healthy food I decided to make an app to analyze food in an easy way.
