September 17, 2022 Stripe Is Ready

Took a short break. Finished Stripe integration for payment. Open Beta ended.

I had been hacking around very intensively for a period of time. After the first beta version was out, I took a break and spent more time with my family. It's always very hard for a indie hacker to constantly spend a large amount of time on a side project, and most of them just die after the first break. I'm glad I've come back, and finished another feature for Stripe payment. As I didn't drop the project, a short break makes me feel fresh and more efficient when I revisit the project.

Now most of the infrastructures are ready. I will spend more times on adding new campaign types and acquire more users. Keep hacking!

July 6, 2022 Bought a domain, Posted on PH

I've bought a domain for my o-goo app. I'm not quite sure if it's too early or too late to buy this domain. I just feel I could buy one at the moment that my MVP is ready to share. I did do a survey about the price when I named it to avoid getting into a situation of either changing my product name or buying a super expensive domain.

Product Hunt and Indie Hackers may be 2 of the most friendly platforms for hackers to launch products. I did it on IH, since I'm indeed an IH. PH now follows.

July 5, 2022 Promo Code is Live

I've managed to add promo code features plus revamp the UI to accommodate the new multi-campaign-type product design. It seems that the development speed has been faster recently. I read it somewhere that "Profit is the king. Speed is the Queen". I hope I can get the king later :p.

Another thing is that I've switched from firebase hosting/functions to vercel.com. The reason is also about the speed. Vercel is just too good at deploying nextjs web app. It's all about speed.

Now it looks more like a product. The Open Beta is still there. Time to find some real users!

July 2, 2022 The Open Beta

After another 2-week hacking, I've got the MVP running. with available features

  • Affiliate link and QR code
  • Marketing performance tracking

At the same time, I did a micro pivot. Instead of focusing on affiliate marketing, I aim to support as many marketing campaign types as possible for physical shops. I think the problem I'm solving here is to help physical businesses leverage marketing technology with little overhead. With that said, API support is now marked as a feature with lower priority.

I still decided to release the open beta as I completed the very first campaign idea, affiliate marketing. The sooner I could get feedback the better. Although it's often said that FREE is probably not a good idea, the open beta will still remain free before I complete another 1-2 campaign tools, buying me more time to develop features and still gathering feedback at the same time.

Special thanks to @treychong for thoughtful suggestions.

June 15, 2022 The Landing Page

After hacking for 2 weeks, at the same time taking care of my twin babies, I've made the mockup of my MVP, with the upcoming functionalities ahead:

  • Affiliate link and QR code
  • Marketing performance tracking
  • API support

Now it's time to get some real feedback.

Exciting!! But, it would have been better if we can check on how your landing page looks like. Is there any link you'd like us to visit?

Thanks for the reply! It’s the same link of the product. I also added it to the post 🙌

June 1, 2022 The Hint

I've seen a lot of affiliate marketing around the online stores, and a lot of individuals promoting products to earn profits. I am wondering why this happens way less in physical stores? I think a good tool may help, and the market is quite large.

Let's go hacking!

Online marketing tech has grown tremendously for online businesses but is less seen in physical stores, such as promo code, affiliate marketing ... etc. I think a well-tailored tool can help, which is now O-Goo.
