September 20, 2021 1.2 Million webhooks handled

This week saw Octohook hit an amazing milestone. We have now handled over 1.2 million webhooks for our users.

In this time we have had to scale our infrastructure, which was great to test our setup but also it feels nice to have to spend a little more money to ensure we can keep up and grow!

February 16, 2021 Introducing webhook workflows

In the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to work on what is potentially the proudest feature I’ve ever contributed to on a product: Webhook workflows! 🚀

Until now, when forwarding webhooks to another destination, you could only forward the exact same webhook received.

Now, with workflows, you can customise just about everything in an intuitive and playful way. That means you can now:

☞ Parse the webhook data into a direct API endpoint of your application.
☞ Connect two applications together similar to how you would in Zapier but with much more flexibility.
☞ Ensure a webhook is forwarded if and only if the incoming data is valid by your own standards.
☞ Customise how webhooks are displayed in Octohook to improve search-ability.

I've made a quick demo explaining how you can connect two APIs together using Octohook’s workflows. I hope you enjoy it and please don’t hesitate to give lots of feedback because we want this feature to keep becoming better and better.

Oh and it's available for free for everyone! 🔥

September 12, 2020 Landing page redesign

https://octohook.com

We've been meaning to update our landing page for a while now since our product has gained maturity and deserved better than a simple "early-bird" message as a landing page.

Fortunately, I randomly started to learn how to use Blender — the 3D modelling software — as a hobby and decided to focus all my creativity towards Octohook.

I watched a lot of YouTube videos, tutorials and courses and made sure to follow along to build some muscle memory. Eventually, I was able to fly on my own with all the tips that I learned and with a lot of inspiration from talented 3D artists on Dribbble.

If you're interested in adding Blender to your set of skills I can recommend 3 particular resources.

  • First of all, I started with the amazing Andrew Price Donut tutorial. Make sure to follow along and finish the course. It will help you get comfortable with Blender in general and touches almost every aspect of the software which is very rare for a beginner's tutorial.

  • Next, I learned some much from this "100+ Tips to Boost Modeling in Blender" video from CG Boost. It's super thorough and well organised to the point that I often refer back to this video when I'm modelling.

  • Last but not least I bought the "Become a 3D Illustrator!" course from PolygonRunway. It is pricey but worth every penny if you want to create stylised 3D illustrations (as opposed to photorealistic 3D modelling). Roman Klco is a hugely talented 3D illustrator and an amazing teacher.

August 24, 2020 Released Subscriptions & Team Management

Although Octohook has been released for a while now, we've never had the ability for users to subscribe and get access to more stuff, all our users use us for free.

So yeah, on this day, we released subscriptions and along side it team management too. This feature has been a massive bottle neck and there were so many parts we under estimated along the way but we finally got here!

We really wanted to keep billing simple, we don't want to overwhelm our users with 10 different plans all with different levels of features. For Octohook, you pay one price and you get access to everything. You can store more webhooks, you can create more sources and you can forward to more destinations. We even just give you unlimited team members, because why the hell not!

For our billing, we didn't want to get caught up in taxes or EU VAT, we are not accountants(!) so we decided to get on board with Paddle. They handle everything including collecting and paying EU VAT on our behalf and once a month send us some money and a reverse invoice. Honestly I couldn't think of a better way to do billing at this point in time! They take a fairly sizeable chunk of revenue (5%) but I 100% believe it's more than worth it for now.

We also decided whilst we are still building the product and still have a lot of features to complete on our road map to offer 50% off (and it'll remain 50% for the life of the subscription).

July 9, 2020 100 User sign ups

Today we hit 100 user sign ups (excluding our own accounts).

This little milestone feels like some nice to share. Although small it validates our idea and proves that we are doing something that is at least a little interesting to others. That validation also provides us with a much needed boost to help us keep going and continue working on new features.

June 8, 2020 Octohook launched in public beta

After working on Octohook in the dark for a number of months we finally launched an MVP slapped on a beta sticker and let anyone sign up for free.

We are letting anyone use Octohook, with some sensible limits, completely for free. We plan to add subscriptions soon once we decide what we want to charge and we add a few more features to make it worth while.

Whilst we have users start to use the platform it will allow us to ensure we are stable and make any performance tweaks we need as we go.

About

Octohook was born out of a frustration of being unable to easily, and nicely, visualise webhooks coming from different sources. We are constantly evolving as we continue to use it daily, finding more ways to improve it.
