May 19, 2020 Launched new website!

I had a dummy landing page for a while - so that I could focus on improving the product and helping our current customers. After building this page out I wish I had done it much sooner! It helped me consolidate the messages I share about One Goal into a pitch, so it's now much easier to talk about it with others!
Also, I'm hoping this landing page will get some more users signing up for the free tier to try out One Goal Cash Flow!

April 15, 2020 Got rid of the invite-only program!

I started One Goal as an invite-only program thinking that the community would help new users setup their budgets, learn the new system, and answer questions. I could then handle feature requests as the product organically grew with an excited and loyal community! Great plan right?

Well I was right about one thing... the invite only program has led to VERY SLOW growth. I now have 12 paying customers and 6 pending invites over the past few months which have led nowhere. That's a great referral rate, but it hasn't led to more customers... yet.

Not only that, but with what's going on in the world today I wanted to give back to the community and offer a budgeting tool for free. So I decided to re-use the onboarding budget builder and turn it into it's own stand-alone product!

New users can now create their own budget for free with the new "Cash Flow" product. It's a great tool to visualize where your money is coming from, where it's going, and how long it will last you. You can log in at anytime to adjust and re-visualize your finances.

I've got big plans for this new free tier and I'm excited to see how others use it!

So here's the new One Goal product line up:

  1. Cash Flow: Follow our quick onboarding questions to create a budget and see your cash flow (FREE for limited time).

  2. Tracking Transactions: Manually track income and expenses by creating transactions inside budgets (monthly subscription).

  3. Transactions + Link: Link to your bank to get transactions automatically sent One Goal. This plan costs me the most money, so I'm glad I was able to put this into it's own pricing tier (monthly subscription).

I'm excited to see where this goes! Although it's a bit frustrating getting rid of some pretty complex code (invite-only program)... I'm glad I went this route:

I was able to prove people are willing to pay for this product - by charging them. Now I can confidently offer something for free, knowing it will help drive more traffic to the paid product, which will continually support the free tier.

Congrats and shipping something so useful! I spend a bunch of time doing my spreadsheet version of this every time I'm weighing a new potential change to my budget. Thanks for making that easier!

February 10, 2020 First cancelled customer!

Well I knew it would happen sooner or later! I had a friend sign up for One Goal who was mildly curious, which quickly turned into an inactive account, and then into my first churned customer.
Lesson learned, sell to the right customer, so they stick around long term!

August 2019 First customers!

Okay so the first customer was me, but still, I wanted to build a product that even I was willing to pay for!

In the next month I got my next two customers! I told my beta testers they could have the first 3 months for free (after we went into production), but one of them paid early! She also invited a friend, who converted after the 14 day trial! So pumped that my first customer was actually someone I didn't know 🎉

July 8, 2019 Started One Goal, LLC

I built One Goal to improve our financial management at home. After my wife and I used it for sometime, we decided to make it official and create an LLC, setup our Stripe account, move into production with Plaid, and start charging for the app! Our first users were friends and family, so we gave them a few months for free for helping us get through the beta phase.

We launched as an invite-only program so that existing users can help others get started with this new way of budgeting. One Goal is built using ionic framework, stenciljs, firebase, and plaid (if you want to link your bank account).

One Goal’s vision is to lower the divorce rate in America through better financial management!

About

I am the classic budget nerd, and my wife is the spender, we’ve tried other apps the the past but none seem to work, and we hated the awkward end-of-the-month budgeting conversation!
