OnPaused

Where paused and early startups find new owners

October 6, 2025 I built a marketplace for “paused” startups - here’s what happened in the first 5 days.

Last week, I noticed a pattern on Reddit and Indie Hackers - tons of founders were posting about shutting down their projects.

Some of these had working code, live domains, paying users… but no time or motivation to continue.

So I built OnPaused — a simple marketplace for “paused” and early startups to find new owners. Think of it as giving your project a second life.

🚀 The last 5 days:
– 150+ buyers joined organically (mostly from Reddit)
– 40+ founders listed their projects (AI tools, SaaS, extensions)

I didn’t run any paid ads. Just Reddit posts, some word of mouth, and a simple form that takes 3 minutes to list.

I realized founders aren’t necessarily giving up, they’re just paused. Sometimes it’s burnout, new jobs, or lack of marketing skills. Many are open to selling if the process is lightweight and safe.

I’m still figuring out:
– How to find more founders sitting on “paused” projects
– How to keep quality high while staying open-access
– The best way to monetize... so I thought this would be the best place to start haha

If you’ve ever sunset a project or have thoughts on marketplaces like this - I’d love your feedback.

I’ve built plenty of small projects myself (most just fizzled out). Every time I paused one, I wished there was an easy way to sell or transfer it. So I built OnPaused to give those projects a second life with new owners
