It's been a little while since posting an end of week update for Open Makers...
First off, happy to say we have officially reached our first goal of 100 products on the site, thank you to everyone who has joined and added a product. Our next goal is 250.

This past year has been one of the most exciting yet stressful years of my life, I suspect it is has been the same for many of you as well. I thought I'd take some time to breakdown what we have accomplished this year for Open Makers and give a bit of an update on our plans for 2022.
We launched Open Makers about 4 months ago in August, since then we have been slowly growing and also adding new features to the site.

Thanks for the question, right now the site is 100% free to use and likely always will be. With that said, eventually we will have to generate some revenue to maintain and expand it.
There are quite a few routes we could go to monetize it:
- Ads
- Sponsored Posts
- Featured Products
- Job board with paid listings
- Donations
Those are what come to mind, as of right now though, we have no rush to implement any of that. We want to make it fully clear our goal is to support makers, not charge them.

I'm a UI designer, I designed it from scratch and I write all the html/css and have a developer who does the backend work.

It's been a busy few weeks with Thanksgiving and work, but have a few updates for you for Open Makers.
✅ If you are using Google Analytics V4 you can now add those metrics to your products.
✅ Added some Admin Tools.
✅ Digging into Paddle API for next Metrics provider.
✅ Fixed Misc. bugs.

Keeping up with weekly updates is tough to remember to do, this is a pain point for us and we have heard that you struggle with remembering as well. We are working on some things to help with that.
Fairly small update this week...
✅ Fully launched our new on-site Notifications system, this will make it a lot easier to discover actions taking by members on your content.
✅ Working on email notification so that when someone asks you an #AMA question, you will know about it without having to visit the site to check.
✅ Broke through our first goal of reaching 100 Makers! Still need to reach that for Products.
✅ Fixed Misc. bugs.

It's Friday, so that means it's time to push to production!
Today we are publishing out new notification system, to make it easier to see the various actions that are happening on your profile and products.
If you click on the new "Bell" icon in the top navigation system while logged in, it will take you to your notifications page (https://openmakers.io/notifications).
Here are some of the actions that will create a notification...
- Someone Likes one of your milestones.
- Someone Follows You.
- Someone Follows Your Product.
- Someone Asks you a question in our AMA section.
- If you follow someone and they post a milestone or article.
- and more...
We are testing a real-time toast notification system when these actions take place, so if you are on the site and someone creates an action that relates to you, you will get a toast. We'll see if this becomes overwhelming or not.
As we were working on our notification system, our friends at Hey.Cafe launched one as well. Turns out their design was VERY similar to what we were already doing, so we didn't steal their design and they didn't steal ours, give them a follow: https://openmakers.io/product/heycafé
This is the first iteration of notifications, we'll likely have a bunch of refinements to make over the coming weeks. We will also have an email notifications system for some actions that require a response, such as AMA questions. This will be a little while out still though.

Growing your product takes more than a single Product Hunt launch, it takes days, months and even years of consistently publishing content and product updates to become successful.
