April 7, 2026 Opeo – We built an internal tool to stop clients from calling us(!), now it's a SaaS

I’m sharing Opeo (https://opeo.io), a platform we built to give local service businesses an "Uber-like" tracking experience for their clients.

The story of how we got here is basically a 5-year lesson in scratching our own itch.

Long story short: it began as a purely selfish project back in 2019. We ran electronics and auto repair businesses, and we were tired of the endless back-and-forth phone calls: "Where are we at?", "Is my car/device done yet?". At the same time, we wanted to eliminate the occasional service disputes by providing hard, visual proof of our work.

We threw together a rough V1 and implemented it internally. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. We wanted to eliminate phone calls, but by building a tool that provided live, visual updates, we accidentally created a 'premium experience'. Suddenly, clients trusted us instantly, started referring their friends, and kept coming back just for the transparency. The "black box" of local repairs and services was gone.

Here is the timeline of how it evolved:

  • 2019 (The Hack): V1 deployed in our own service businesses. Ugly UI, but it solved the core communication problem between the shop floor and the customer.

  • 2020 (Scaling Internally): Scaled across multiple electronics and auto service branches. We realized the system was robust enough for multi-location synchronization and different workflow types.

  • 2021-2022 (The Grind): Two years of relentless optimization. We tweaked it daily based on raw feedback from our own technicians holding greasy wrenches, the front-desk staff, and the end-customers standing right in front of them.

  • 2023 (The Pivot): Some of our B2B partners and fellow shop owners saw how we tracked things and started asking: "Can we use this for our business too?". We decided to rip out the hardcoded parts and turn our battle-tested internal tool into a proper SaaS.

  • 2025 (Go Live): Started full-scale SaaS development, completely rebuilt the stack for scale, and launched to our first external customers.

We built it for ourselves first, refined it over thousands of real-world jobs, and are now opening it up to everyone because we know first-hand how much a great tracking experience can grow a service business.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the UI/UX, the landing page, or just talk about the transition from internal tool to public SaaS.

About

We built Opeo because we were tired of the endless 'how is it going?' phone calls. We wanted to offer our clients a truly premium, 'Uber-like' tracking experience instead of manual updates.
