Orus founding story

Hello Indie Hackers!

You don't know how proud I am to write on this platform today 😊

I've been a lurker here for almost 2 years now, and I finally decided to start building since last month. I'm a French last year computer science student, and my professor showed me Indie Hackers 2 years ago.
Since then, I've always been part of the silent community, even after creating an account.
As I have 6 months of runway from my school program, I decided to start building on a problem I faced for 9 months.

Last year, I was studying in the US, I had some savings, and I wanted to enjoy it to the maximum. After reading the book 'Die with Zero' by Bill Perkins, I decided that I needed to get the most out of my money with my time left. Traditional budgets never worked for me, as I often felt it restrictive, and my spending each month were totally different.

I was on a solo vacation to Oregon at the time, and my friends were asking me to go on trips to Alaska and Mexico 2 months later. If I booked now while the prices were low, would I have enough money to cover my expenses for the next 2 months? I had no idea how an expense would affect my finances for the coming months.

That's when I discovered forecast budgeting, which is a way to manage your money by looking into the future. Instead of tracking what you've spent, it helps you predict how much money you'll have at any given time. This is often used for businesses to manage their cashflow, but I couldn't find a pleasing solution for individuals. I was using a solution (which is now a competitor) that was missing features I wanted, and maintenance seemed to be on hold for years now.

So I build one.

I can't wait to continue building, and discover the experiences along the way!
