Why Packbit exists. Offline compress, convert, PDF, and local transfer, built from the pain of upload, wait, and download.

You have a client video that needs to go out tonight. Upwork caps the size. Gmail does too. So you hunt for a compressor.

Or you scanned a stack of pages. You need them as one PDF, reordered, previewed, and small enough to send. Those files are private. Free online tools want the upload first.

Or you finished two clips, and now you need them on your phone. Or from your phone back to the laptop. Opening another browser tab for another peer-to-peer site feels like one more detour.

That pile of small frictions is why Packbit exists.

Upload, wait, download

Most free online tools ask you to upload first. Then they work. Then you download. For a few hundred megabytes, that wait is the job.

Packbit is disc to disc on your machine, often with GPU help. You can see the video proof on this site. No cloud queue. No please-wait-while-we-receive-your-file.

Batch compress videos when you need them smaller. Convert across 100+ combinations of 20 formats when the deadline wants a different container. Merge videos when two outputs should become one. Preview, reorder, and merge PDFs when the document has to be ready.

Those jobs belong together. A full signing suite and every old PDF toolkit feature do not. Packbit keeps the utilities that sit next to compress and convert. That is intentional.

Drag from File Explorer on Windows or Finder on Mac. Start the drag and Packbit appears. The floating desktop bar and the compact full app are both built for that moment. Prefer keyboard shortcuts? They are there. Prefer handing the job to an AI agent over MCP? That works too.

Recipes stay simple: each one captures the whole workflow. Better quality, Recommended, Stronger, and Smallest are quality options within that workflow. When you need more control, it is there. The point is finishing the job, not hunting knobs.

Free tools already exist

HandBrake can compress offline. LocalSend can move files nearby. A dozen sites can convert one format at a time. You are free to use all of them.
