August 31, 2023 First major user traffic

I did my first marketing campaign via Nextdoor/Facebook. The stats:

  • 1,000 impressions
  • 40 website visitors
  • 20 zip codes entered (first CTA on my website)
  • 0 customers

Thrilled about the top of funnel conversion. A bit bummed that it did not convert into any paying customers (yet). Would love to get user feedback, but unfortunately I can't communicate with anyone who doesn't give me an email.

I am integrating Intercom to see if it will help get me more user feedback.

August 24, 2023 v2 Released

After a successful launch of the product and a very helpful set of customer feedback interviews, I've spent the past 3 months refining the front-end experience. It now looks much more professional. Excited to expand the reach of Parcel and help others save!

January 29, 2023 First paying customers!

First paying customers and it feels great!

Our early users guide us. All were happy with the product and would recommend to their friends, but there was a lot of helpful constructive feedback as well. All functionality was there, but clearly the UI needed improvement. I want to experience to feel like Turbotax - a simple, friendly, guided experience where a user doesn't need to think too much.

October 22, 2022 _v1 Released 🙌

It's not pretty, but if you're not embarrassed of it, then you probably launched too late. Parcel is live and available on the web for all to see. I plan to do a batch of family and friends, along with a light amount of direct mail marketing, to have users test the service.

September 30, 2022 Teaching myself to code

I've built businesses a few different ways, but always on the business side. It's important to be become self-sufficient and be able to handle things on the technical side as well. I looked at a few quotes externally, but decided to do all of the dev work myself. The internet is an amazing resource.

The going is slow, especially at the beginning, and often frustrating. But, it's empowering to have all of the business, product, and technical context in one head to be able to make the right decisions when building the product.

August 16, 2022 The idea for Parcel 💡 - a not-so-taxing experience

This year, I was looking at my property tax bill and realized I could be saving a significant amount of money by filling out a few forms online. I filed a few pieces of paperwork with the city, and cut my property tax bill by over $700 each year. 🤑

I couldn't believe I didn't know about these tax breaks, and when I asked my friends and family, it turns out nobody really knew that they existed.

That's where the spark for Parcel came. Nobody wants to read through the complicated tax code. It should be simple to understand the tax benefits that exist, and to apply for them.

About

Last year, I looked at my property tax bill and realized I could be saving $700 / year by filling out a few forms. I built the service to help other homeowners get the same savings without needing to read the tax code.
