November 1, 2022 Passed 100 followers on TikTok

Our viral video keeps on trucking (375,000 views and counting) and we keep gaining followers from it.

We're super encouraged by the success of this post. We have a few more TikToks scheduled over the coming weeks, so we'll be interested to see how those trend.

Also two more long-form episodes in the works, for our YouTube channel. Let's go!

Hey congrats! Building a following (be it opt-ins on a blog or social media) is always encouraging :)

October 26, 2022 Went viral on TikTok - a complete surprise

On Monday, we posted a quick TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTR9N4NN7/

This was quick. We shot it over the weekend as we were heading out to film a long-form video for the YouTube channel. On Monday morning, my partner posted it without a lot of effort. After all, our previous videos were getting a couple hundred views, and TikTok isn't our primary focus. We genuinely thought "oh, some other people might find this funny."

1.5 hours later, it had 69 views.
2 hours later, it had 10,000 views.
24 hours later, 180,000 views.

Strangers are arguing in the comments. It's a genuine internet moment.

A bit overwhelming. And very encouraging.

We have a few theories about what clicked. We unintentionally tapped into a fairly controversial topic among Disney fanatics (the reservation system), the video is very short, and there's no dialogue (just music and text).

Two days in, it's still getting about 100 views per hour.

Maybe most importantly, we're not changing our focus. Posting high quality long form content on YouTube, at a relatively consistent schedule. We'll occasionally post on TikTok, but we're not going to go out of our way to chase views. Because ultimately, these TikTok views haven't really translated into views of our YT channel.

A lot of work went into creating this video, and we're super proud of the result.

The thing we're proudest of is getting it out there. Are we embarrassed by certain parts? Absolutely. So it's just right to ship.

Now the task is to produce more and stay consistent - both with quality and with scheduling.
