September 30, 2022 Updating our business model

Our app is the life and joy of thousands of households and kitty parties in India. Although it makes us proud, it does not generate any revenue for us.

We are now tweaking our app to helps Tambola become the customer acquisition, engagement and retention tool for companies.

Let us see which direction it takes.

July 30, 2022 Got more than 100K users playing Tambola

We finally had our 100Kth user playing this game.
Although we are not making any money, we are able to engage and entertain users all across India and the world.

Tambola is a standard party game in India and we are honored to be part of so many households.

June 28, 2020 First public game with 130+ players with zero ads

To introduce Party Tambola, we decided to run ads on Facebook. Apparently the ad violated some Policy of Facebook (Facebook never explained what was wrong or how I could fix the ad), Facebook de-activated the ad account.

So we decided to use use that ad budget as reward for this game and started sharing in our social and personal network that we are organizing a game on Sunday 11:30am (India time) with token cash rewards.

We thought that we would be lucky if there are 50 players in the game. We managed to get more than 130 registered players when the game started.

Somethings that we learnt:

  • A lot of people want to help and support you. So do not hesitate to reach out to them and inform them about what you are trying to do
  • Building an audience on Facebook is a waste of time. After spending time and money to build an audience on Facebook, you will have to spend more money to share your message to your network.
  • Spending on ads is overrated. There are smarter ways to spend the same budget and get better returns
  • Set a deadline for an event/action. Then share that deadline multiple times. Specially 1 hour before the event.
  • More than 50% signups happen in the last one hour of the deadline

Finally, after 5 months, I have a stable app that is published on both Android and iOS stores.

We have been testing this app with a bunch of early users and implementing their feedback for the past few weeks.

The purpose of this launch is to acquire more users, gather their feedback and make this app more useful for them.
