Passwordless.dev
A Simple API for "Sign in with fingerprint" for your webapp
In order to reduce friction and make it even easier to for programmers to upgrade their website with WebAuthn and Passwordless.dev we've done some improvements!
We've analyzed all requests that we fail.
Many are because of bad input to the API. While the response from our API already informs the user of the error, it's not always easy for developers to read the response code and message.
Therefor we're upgrading our SDK's to automatically detect bad input and throw client side exceptions before sending it to the API. This should improve the experience for developers and lessen the confusion.
We were able to acquire 40 new signups during January.
While not all who sign up convert even to recurring free users, it's great to see that more developers have started to discover the power of Passwordless.dev and the WebAuthn API that we power.
Our mission is to make the web safer - and to make our open source work sustainable.

We normally reach out to most of our users to help out if there is any problems or questions when getting started.
Today we received a great response that validates that our efforts to make it as easy as possible to secure your users and website with WebAuthn.
When we asked the programmer if the API was easy to use the response was:
"OMG, it's amazing. Great work!
I've just done a POC to integrate it with our reactjs based website > and it worked seamlessly."
🎉 Really great news.
Make sure you try it out yourself, we even have a "frontend only"-example so you can quickly test and impress your colleagues with "FaceID" signin ... without doing any server side code!

With the API being stable, focus is now on creating more awareness amongst developers.
Most traffic comes from our own Open Source project. But we need to find more ways of telling developers that Passworldess and WebAuthn exists and educate them on the great benefits for both user experience and security.

Passwordless makes W3C WebAuthn (fingerprint, faceid, etc) easy to add to existing and new web apps. Passwordless is based on open source and works as a complement or replacement of password based sign ins and 2FA/MFA.
