PE Tech Knowledge
AI powered indian stock Research
Hey IH — founder of Pe Tech Knowledge here (petechknowledge.in). Wanted to share the actual journey, because it wasn't a straight line.
The pivot that started it all
I originally set out to build a copy-trading platform — let users automatically mirror trades from experienced investors. Got it fully working. Then I actually looked into the regulatory side (SEBI in India) and realized: automated trade execution for followers requires broker partnerships and, depending on how it's built, Research Analyst registration. Building it wasn't the hard part — operating it legally was.
Rather than launch something I'd have to walk back later, I shelved it and asked a different question: what could I build that's genuinely useful, fully free, and doesn't need a license?
That became Pe Tech Knowledge — a free stock research tool for NSE & BSE.
What it actually does
Full fundamentals + technicals for any NSE/BSE stock (P/E, P/B, ROE, RSI, moving averages, balance sheet, quarterly results)
A transparent scoring system — Financial Health, Growth, Valuation, Risk — using a disclosed formula, not a black box
A stock screener with natural-language queries via an AI assistant ("find stocks with low P/E and high ROE")
PDF export, stock comparison, corporate actions tracking (dividends, board meetings)
10+ free investor education guides (P/E explained, candlesticks, reading a balance sheet, etc.)
100% free, no login
The compliance thing I didn't expect to matter so much
Since this touches financial data, I spent real time making sure the AI assistant never gives buy/sell recommendations — it explicitly declines and redirects to explaining the numbers instead. When I built natural-language stock screening, I hit an interesting problem: the AI would sometimes return technically-correct-but-misleading results — like flagging a stock with 276% ROE as a "great match" for a screening query, when that kind of number almost always means a distressed company with a tiny equity base, not a great business. Had to add rule-based sanity checks that catch this regardless of what the AI itself remembers to mention. Small thing, but it's the difference between a tool people trust and one that quietly misleads people who don't know what to look for yet.
The unglamorous war story
Deployed on Oracle Cloud's free tier. Spent an embarrassing number of hours chasing a "site works from some networks but times out on others" bug that turned out to be a stale DNS record from Hostinger's nameserver cluster not syncing properly — some of their nodes had my domain's *old* IP cached indefinitely. Eventually just migrated DNS to Cloudflare and it resolved cleanly. If you're running into mysterious "works for me, not for them" issues, check your DNS provider's node consistency before you assume it's your app.
Where it's at now
Live, functional, indexed on Google (working through Search Console)
Just launched on Product Hunt
Pre-revenue — focused on building genuine traffic/trust before applying for AdSense, rather than rushing monetization on a site with no track record
Solo-built and maintained
What I'd love feedback on
If you're in India and have ever wanted this kind of tool — does anything feel missing?
Anyone else navigated the "cool idea → actually check the regulations first" pivot? Curious how others handled it.
Happy to answer anything about the build, the SEBI compliance angle, or the DNS debugging saga.
About
I wanted to build something in the stock research space, and I was frustrated that genuinely good free options in India either lack fundamentals + technicals + AI-assisted screening in one place.

I like that you let the regulatory constraint reshape the product instead of trying to work around it.
The trust signal isn't just that the AI explains stocks—it's that you've designed the product to know where analysis should stop instead of pretending to provide investment advice.
