March 6, 2021 Some encouraging early numbers

I checked the stats today, and they're incredible:

  • Over 480 domain polls posted
  • Over 12,000 votes cast!!

And all within the past 2.5 weeks since launch.

I was worried that people wouldn't have an incentive to vote. Clearly they do.

Very pleased with progress so far.

March 1, 2021 100+ members since launch

2 weeks post launch, we now have over 100 members. While the numbers are still small, they are growing quickly, and we're seeing many members returning multiple times a week, both to submit and to vote.

Yesterday we sent out our second new polls newsletter. From 19 at the end of the first week, we had over 190 this time around. If this continues, we'll likely need to switch to a daily newsletter.

The first non-seed polls are now visible on the home page, and they're showing between 40 and 50 votes each, with 4-5 days still to go. That's a great set of data for early members.

February 23, 2021 First 1,000 votes cast

That was quick! Over 1,200 votes have been cast already, and it's been just over a week since launch. A few other milestones:

  1. Domain polls on PeerIdeas are on average seeing more peer responses than on any other website, including those that are well established and known for domain appraisals.

  2. Our first newsletter had 19 new domain polls listed for the whole week. The past few days we've had more than that added in a single day.

February 2020 Private beta launch

Launched the private beta website today. I think it's mostly complete. I'm sure there are areas I haven't thought of, and bugs to iron out, but I'm happy that it's finished and live.

Next step is to find some beta users who have domains they'd like valued.

January 2020 A new idea

I'm a member of a sub-reddit for domainers, and I noticed that many people post polls asking for appraisals. While there are automated tools that can be used, sometimes a domain name is subjective, or relies on subject matter knowledge that others don't have, and that a machine couldn't possibly determine.

The polls are also inconsistent. Some people post polls that ask for appraisals of value from $1,000 upwards, where the domain isn't worth the renewal fee. Others have posted domains that they don't already own, and it's a waste of time for experienced domainers to use their knowledge to help others buy something of value.

Finally, there is no historical record of polls run so they can't be used by others for learning.

PeerIdeas is a website designed to help solve these, and multiple other challenges that domain investors, collectors and enthusiasts face.
