Personal Gaming Guide/ News & Ranting Website
Another day in the traffic grinding journey. I wrote more, apply for a few popular Advertising Network, and got rejected. The Ad earning took a hit during the global pandemic. During this time, another company contact and provide me another way to monetize my traffic.
This helps me increase me earning to 400$/ Month, not much, but it did help me to move a little further on the journey.
Current Traffic Stat (Last 30 Days)
Users: 41,278
Sessions: 61,337
Pageviews: 84,344
Continue with my writing and some minor fix on previous Post SEO, I manage to hit a new record for traffic this month - 160k pageview/ month.
I was also expecting my revenue to increase with this traffic, turn out the "thing" that affects everyone globally also affect my little website, the ad revenue drop 30% as no business want to advertise during these times. Anyway, I still had a long time goal to hit 1,000,000 pageviews!

Do you do any link building for the site? If yes, what are your link building tactics. Thanks :)

Hi Soloism,
I do implement some link building for the site, and all are textbook approaches. I do try to be more creative on this front :)
Below are some of the common one I used- Create some video content and link to my post.
- Link to my article in questions on various communities
- Add some vertical image on Pinterest that link to my article
- Have a Facebook page that links with my new posts (Don't have much traffic from Facebook though, my follower side is still small)
- Submit my article to some of the popular newsletter (They sometimes don't approve it though)

Congratulations Anh Quoc Truong! How do you drive initial traffic to your website? Are people finding your website by googling for their favorite games or are you using google ads?

Hi rethab, Thanks! No, I did not use Google Ad, I did try FB ad at some point in the past but got no luck. To put it simply, I don't have any product to sell, so the ad cost can easily get over the ad revenue!
Initially, I just wrote posts base on my playtime experience, but turn out it is not efficient as it seems. Later on, I try to see what the players of the game are looking for and writing base on their intent instead.
So, it is all about SEO and keywords actually. Currently, 90% of my traffic is from google, another part is from video game-friendly community like Reddit.

On October 1, I got to 30,700 Pageviews, and thought that I just need to write more and got new records. With some quick calculation, I was thinking that I need ~70 more posts to get 3 times the traffic.
Well, that is partly correct. While you do need to have content for more traffic. Your content must match what the user is trying to find - a basic SEO & Content problem.
With that in mind, I make a plan on Dec following the 30 days stat of November to see what is my highest pageview content (pages)
After that, I organized my keywords again and start writing posts base on that. At the time I estimated, the goal is to increase my traffic for 38% for each content I published.
The result? On 31 January, my traffic is increased by 380% (From 30k pageviews to 105k pageview!) and my revenue got doubled. This is just from 14 posts with the right keyword (less than what I have estimated from quick math)
It is an early gain, and I believe it can grow more, I will document a detailed step by step at the end of March 2020 as I already planned out my next writing streak.

Checked my revenue for the end of January, and it got passed 250$!
This is the combination of the new posts I wrote in Dec and January. As well as an uptrend in searching volume. I am planning to write more posts and see if this can grow!

I hit 28k sessions and 37,700 page views in September!
I finally understand not to write about whatever I like - people don't just search whatever you wrote, but they search for what they want.
A basic SEO lesson that took me almost a year to learn. Most of the content I wrote now was base on the previous highest page views posts.
This is to make sure the time I spent on writing is not in vain.
Despite not being an English native, I have happened to write more than 100 guides for my games library. This month, I decided to write even more. It's exhausting, but it's the only way to grow the website.
The website currently has 90 post - which only has ~15 posts that attract the most visitors. I need more of these posts!

Hosting on shared VPS sucks. The price is lovely when you first signed up with the provider (2.95/ month - peanuts money!) But then for a year, the price returned to normal 15$/month for 20k monthly visitors!
I moved from WordPress hosting >> Self-hosted with various shared hosting Wordpress and now to the Cloud!

I created a website way back in 2017 where I shared about my journey in my games library. Mostly about games guides and how to play.
The earning was peanut at first. 0.12$ was the very first MONTHLY earning I had. Over the year, I learned about SEO, Ad Networks, website growing and finally managed to integrated Adsense earlier this year.
Currently, I managed to get ~40$/ month (Enough to buy a discount game after minus the expense from hosting :) )
I had the feeling I had to have some smart way to scale the site, so here we go, let's see the step I take to scale up this little site.
