August 29, 2021 Added English translations

Petsy is now available in English. I also updated and localized the App store screenshots so they contain the newest features. Localization of the app was quite easy as I anticipated that from the beginning and used the i18n library for React Native.

Let's give it some time to see if it makes a difference.

Good luck! Also try re-active channels where you’ve tried to acquire customers before. May be English version would be beneficial for some of them either

August 23, 2021 Not sure if Petsy solves an actual problem.

At this moment Petsy has 116 free users and about 10% use the app at least once a month. I got these users mostly from 2 big Facebook groups about cats.

I am starting to doubt if people care enough about the health of their cats to use an app for it.

Some stats after 1 year and 4 months:

  • 116 users
  • 291 pets
  • 97 reminders
  • 813 events

It's hard to stay in touch with the users. I tried reaching out to several new users with a cold email after they signed up for at least a month. I sent them a very short email, asking their permission to contact them with 2 questions about the future of the app. Sent out 20 emails, got 0 responses.

I assumed the niche of pet health tracking apps was validated by the existence of at least 5 different apps in that space, the biggest one being 11Pets which has around 4000 reviews on the Google Play store.

Maybe you could try to localize the app into English. I haven't found an English version of the app in the App Store. That may expand your potential audience.

If I missed an English version — sorry

Good point, at the moment it’s only in the Dutch App Store. Seems like a good next step, thanks!

May 1, 2020 Launched Petsy for iOS.

I needed an easy app to manage some info about my 2 cats. The apps that I could find in the App Store were pretty bad UX-wise. So I decided I could do better and started to build Petsy.

I have started many side projects in the past but finishing them was always a problem. This time it was gonna be different. I had one month to come up with an MVP, and I wanted to work from Monday - Friday. I came up with a pretty accurate planning at the beginning of every week. Four weeks later I deployed my first version to the App Store.

The app is built with React Native and Typescript. The API is done with GraphQL and Typescript.

The app is still limited at this moment:

  • You can add pets with a name.
  • Log events like vet visits
  • Add general notes to your pet
  • Add weight
  • Customizable reminders for stuff like deworming/defleaing.
