Phantom Chat
iOS messenger with NIST post-quantum encryption
Big update for Phantom Chat 👻🔒
We're making private messaging easier to start:
✅ 1-on-1 chats are now FREE — encrypted end-to-end, no ads, ever
✅ New 7-day free trial on Personal ($4.99/mo or $39.99/yr)
✅ Premium unlocks group chats, decoy/duress mode, panic shake,
auto-destruct timer, custom app icons & more
✅ Disappearing messages with flexible timers
Privacy shouldn't cost you a thing to start. No ads.
Just private, end-to-end encrypted conversations.
Ok here is a video of decoy mode. One of my favourite features of Phantom Chat.

• PQXDH: Curve25519 + ML-KEM-768 hybrid • Double Ratchet, AES-256-GCM • CI builds + tests on Apple hardware • byte-for-byte conformance check vs Apple CryptoKit's ML-KEM-768
Source-available (review license, not OSI). Firebase backend, so some metadata exists — audit is honest about it.

No. We don't ask for or store a phone number, email, real name, or location. We run no analytics, ads, or behavioural tracking, and we never see your message content. To deliver messages, our database stores basic routing information every messenger needs — which accounts share a conversation, and message timestamps — which we never sell or profile. Push notifications strip all content; only an opaque wake signal reaches Apple's servers. Beyond that, we hold only your username, an opaque push token, and your subscription status.

Create encrypted group chats where the only way in is an invite code. No public directory, no username search, no way for strangers to find your room. Each invite code lets in up to 500 people, and creators can issue multiple codes for different cohorts — all members land in the same group with full end-to-end encryption throughout.

If you’re a journalist, activist, lawyer, or anyone who regularly communicates with people who have good reasons to stay anonymous, this beta is worth your time. It’s also worth watching if you’re simply tired of messaging apps that treat your phone number as a required credential.

Phantom Chat started as a proof of concept. I wanted to see whether one person, working seriously, could build a messenger that was actually private — not "private when convenient" or "private until the next policy update," but cryptographically private in a way the developer themselves couldn't undo. The answer turned out to be yes.

The goal is simple: to build the most secure messenger in the world, by someone who isn't being paid to look the other way. Privacy isn't a feature here. It's the entire reason this exists, and it's the one thing that will never change.

About
Phantom Chat is the messenger I built because every other one wants my phone number or email before I can talk to a friend. Solo-built from Western Australia, iOS for now. Privacy by design. Currently in Beta.
