We were thrilled to be featured in an article right at the top of their homepage all day. The article runs through all the self-hosted solutions that exist for moving away from Google Photos.
This put is in front of a much wider audience than we've ever had and this has been proven in terms of traffic and mailing list sign-ups. We were mentioned 2nd in the list which is also a bonus.

In our monthly round-up this time we show the process we went through to add face recognition and grouping to Photonix.
Other new features include search auto-completion, CLI tools, date-based event tagging, download photos from within the browser and map view improvements. We also got approved by GitHub sponsors if you'd like to show your support.

The Linux Unplugged podcast recently reviewed Photonix as part of their favourite Google Photos alternatives episode. It was completely unexpected to get featured - just started seeing traffic from their domain in my analytics.

We managed to pack a lot into last month's development cycle. A few of the highlights are: mobile layout improvements, updates on the Android and iOS apps, faceted search, date filtering and an improved metadata UI. We're also lucky to have received several contributions from our amazing open source community!

I’m delighted to say that development on Photonix has really picked up pace in the last couple of months. I have some new help in the form of Gyan who has been crunching through a backlog of features with me. There’ll be further details in an upcoming post about him and his role. For now I’m making a commitment to summarize the work that has been completed each month.
This first monthly update (January 2021) is released a few days into February and covers some of December but I felt it necessary to document as I know there will be many more things to write about by the end of this month.
