May 1, 2020 Mobile app released

The first design of the mobile app is launched and has all the functionality of the website.

I developed the mobile app in React-Native to make sure the app can be deployed for Android and iPhone as quickly as possible.

This first release does not include push notifications.

March 1, 2020 Finished MVP

It was time to take the plunge and open the website to the public.

All remaining early adopters are sent an email that they can still use their username/email that they reserved.

Thanks to the fun of 2020, I'm able to start working on Photoprivy full time.

March 1, 2018 Finished the prototype

After a few months of part-time development, the first website prototype is finished and deployed. Access is limited to me, my wife, and my mother so we can put the prototype through its paces.

Accepting early access reservations for friends and family that are interested in my idea.

December 21, 2017 Came up with my idea

A few weeks before, I started looking for an alternative to Facebook to share my son's photos with family privately. I had a few criteria I was looking for: 1) had to be privacy-focused, 2) not sell user data, 3) transparent on the data they were collecting, and 3) had a business model that did not rely on ads.

I found lots of alternatives, but they all were lacking in one or two areas. In fact, most were not as private and secure as I would have liked, either exposing public links or using third-party services that were known for selling data when they did not have to.

After talking to a few friends, parents at the daycare, and random parents at the grocery store, I decided that this was a problem worth solving, and the idea of Photoprivy was born.

About

Concerned about my son's online privacy, I developed Photoprivy to share his photos with only the people my wife and I trust. Photoprivy is privacy by design, data transparent, and you own your data.
