PingPing
Website and SSL Monitoring
It's been a year since I started PingPing. Here are some interesting numbers.
💵 MRR (Net): $700
🤵 Total Sign Ups: 1512
💳 Monthly Costs: $55
🔈 Marketing: $500
📈 Total Visitors: 13377
💻 Work per month: < 15 min.
I only work on PingPing sporadically at the moment. I honestly don't know what I can do to further increase my MRR.
I quickly realized that my readers were interested in how I managed to build PingPing and when and why I earned my first money. So I decided to write a little article about what I did to achieve that.
The cool thing. 24 days after launch I have a $100 MRR.

This was the best feeling I've ever had. I got my very first paying customer and it felt great! It only took 5 days for the first paying customer to register. The only thing I did was post a tweet on Twitter to point out the launch.

The beta didn't last long. I noticed that I had worked relatively cleanly and that there were no major problems. That was positive.
So I only had to fix some minor problems here and there but then it happened. I started PingPing on 01.11.2019. An awesome feeling!

After I decided not to build PingPing in public anymore, I decided to build a commercial product.
So I spent the next time developing PingPing. I didn't stress myself out. I developed when there was time. So it takes a few months until I finally had a product that I was satisfied with.
I sent an email to all subscribers who wanted to participate in the Private Beta. More than 50 people signed up. I selected 8. It's really hard to get testers who are reliable. Most of them just want to have a lifetime license for free.

I knew that if PingPing was to be successful, it was necessary to have potential customers beforehand. So I quickly built a landing page.
I explained what PingPing is, why you should use it and that you can already register to be informed when it finally starts.
This decision was great. Until the Private Beta this list brought me more than 500 subscribers.

After writing 8 episodes about the development of PingPing, I realized that the effort is extremely high if you do it in public. The demand was getting bigger and bigger. But it was my free time, wasn't it?
So I decided to release the last episode, Episode 9 and started thinking about what to do next.

I was looking for a monitoring tool for my websites and SSL certificates. I knew there was a lot out there. But I always found them all too expensive. You pay for features you don't need. So I decided to build something of my own.
I didn't want to build a business product. I just wanted to build a small tool for myself and the whole thing in public, so that everyone could join in. The result was a little series about building PingPing.io.

I was looking for a simple monitoring tool for websites and SSL certificates, where you don't pay for features you don't need. PingPing was born.
