Community for independent coffee lovers
We decided to pause/close our coffee subscription service experiment after 6 months. Our consulting business was requiring more of our time. In addition, the service wasn't gaining traction as expected. We didn't experience any churn and the customers were sad when we stopped the service, but it was difficult to acquire new customers.
In addition, we didn't want to become an e-commerce, marketplace, or subscription box business. It doesn't fit our mission. We want to make it easy to access independent coffee anywhere. We'd have to stop promoting retailers and our partner's own websites if we really wanted to succeed.
We created a service where you could subscribe and get coffee from different independent coffee brands every month. It was initially met with great enthusiasm and interest. Coffee fans really enjoy the service because they get to try something fun and different every month.

We hit a milestone of 10,000 members in one of our coffee-related Facebook groups. It was completely organic and the group manages itself. We use it to build a coffee community, promote independent coffee businesses and just connect with like-minded people. The benefit we receive is that we can get quick feedback on our changes, proposed features, and updated content.

I love coffee and I love finding independent coffee shops and companies but it wasn't easy to find them. I discovered there are thousands of small independent coffee brands across the country.
