Every few weeks I hit the same wall: a job portal wants a resume under 200KB, a visa form wants a scan under 500KB, and an Aadhaar/KYC upload wants a specific page size. Meanwhile my iPhone shoots HEIC, which half of those portals refuse outright. The usual fix is uploading personal documents to a random free converter site, which always felt wrong for ID proofs and offer letters.
So I built PixelAndPDF: https://pixelandpdf.com/ - a small toolkit that does compression to a target size, JPG/PNG/HEIC to PDF, merge, split and reorder entirely inside the tab. The heavy lifting runs as WebAssembly on your own machine, so nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and closing the tab is the delete button. It also means it works offline once loaded, and my hosting bill stays close to zero because I am not paying to move files around.
It is honestly still rough: very large scanned PDFs are slower than a server would be, and Safari HEIC handling took three rewrites. The IH product page is here: https://www.indiehackers.com/product/pixelandpdf
Question for you all: what file size limit do you run into most often in real life - 200KB, 500KB, 1MB, 2MB? I want to ship one-click presets for the most common ones, and I would rather build for the limits people actually hit than guess.
