Placelist
Discover places you'll love from people you trust.
It's been a bit of a slog, and had to put the project down for a bit, but Placelist just passed 200 signups! This has been the result of several efforts, including blogging, social media marketing via Instagram and friends of friends signups.
I was stuck for a bit not knowing if I wanted to go ahead but at this point I thought I'd at least continue to learn and validate before building anything more.
Partially this project has allowed me to get more practice with Figma and Protopie and workout a general approach for these types of consumer MVPs by assembling a kind of toolkit.
Chaz
I started using Fuse Open last year - fairly steep learning curve but allowed me to build a real working version of an app.
Right now the app is "half built" - has most of the scaffolding in place - but the core maps functionality has to be re-built (Fuse doesn't have great map integration so need to re-think).
However, the core features are built and you can search places by neighborhood.

Did another re-design in Figma so I could have a working prototype I could test with. Since the older versions of placelist were designed more as a web app I felt I needed something really reflective of "an instagram of places" type angle.
This was great as well as I hadn't used Figma in a while so it gave me a chance to brush up on it.
The prototype is here - https://www.figma.com/proto/b06buP45bObXJ4XeFdehIDmh/Placelist?node-id=10%3A650&scaling=scale-down

Sent out a google survey to a group of people (friends, friends of friends) to solicit feedback and understand how they thought of the problem of saving, sharing and discovering places.
The really interesting thing I found is that many felt there was still not a great way to discover new places - or to have a quick list of places they could pull up and share with friends who were asking for recommendations.

Placelist came about for after witnessing many people asking myself and others for lists of places to go (bars restaurants) as well as a way to exchange lists which was mostly done via text, google docs, email.
