Got 2,000 paying subscribers! 😍
by Marko SaricWe've just hit 2,000 paying subscribers with Plausible Analytics, a simple, lightweight and privacy first alternative to Google Analytics. Thank you all for helping us reach this amazing milestone!
Plausible is now counting stats on more than 10,000 websites and we've tracked 770,874,737 pageviews until now.
It's been a wild ride going from having 100 subscribers in May last year to having 2,000 subscribers now. Here's a brief recap and you can read our full story in our IH milestones:
- May 14, 2019: Got our first paying subscriber
- May 12, 2020: Reached 100 paying subscribers
- February 15, 2021: Reached 2,000 paying subscribers
Thanks to us reaching sustainability with our recent $10,000 MRR milestone, we are now able to give back 5% of our gross revenue to environmental causes and open source projects we rely on.

Congratulations, guys! You should be proud of how far you've taken the business.
Based on the timeline above, it took over a year to go from 0-100 customers and significantly less to add the next 1900. What would you attribute that to? Is is simply a matter of persevering through the dip? Did it take that long to find the right marketing channels? Or was the time needed to improve the product to a level where more people would pay for it?

thanks Chris for the kind words! it's a mix really. product was being improved and developed gradually over that time but the main influence really was the fact that we started doing content marketing from April 2020. for instance the first blog post i published after i joined Plausible was on April 8th and it made it to the top of hacker news. you can find more details on this part of our journey here https://plausible.io/blog/blog-post-changed-my-startup

it looks great; It seems like my adblocker caught plausible.io and blocked it (so I had to disable it), do you plan to offer proxying from custom subdomain to get around adblocks

Quick question: You are using a lot Google on your landing page and wondering if you had any legal problems out of it. We are thinking of using a big SaaS brand name as well, although they are not a competitor, but using their name would make very clear what our product does and people would immediately understand. E.g just making a silly example up: the Airbnb of e-commerce.
