Quickly design and document your API with Plus
Hey Everyone,
I am trying to focus more on marketing now that I have a stable MVP and am starting out by creating a blog: https://plus.tools/blog
Any advice? So far I have:
Created about about a half dozen posts around the same topic: API versioning. Those are scheduled to be released every couple of days. Those form a series on API Versioning.
For each post, I am posting on Twitter (https://twitter.com/plusAPIs) LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/64749344/admin/) and Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/user/plusAPIs).
Does Reddit frown about company accounts?
I also created a SlideShare account and presentation summarizing the blog posts series: https://www.slideshare.net/VanceFaulkner1/how-to-version-your-api
I plan on posting either this summary presentation or my final, summary blog post on Hacker news. I am a little hesitant to post every blog post to hacker news so as to no "spam" it although I'd be curious if others do do this.
Launched in October. Learned that you need to launch early and without a "perfect" product. Also, learned that it is good to interlace marketing tasks with new features. Finally, I learned to use as productive a technology stack as possible rather than trying to learn new technologies as part of the project.

Congrats on starting the blog.
Now, people will tell you that blogging is a long term game. I’d say it is and isn’t. If you’re looking for traffic then it can be a long term game but if you’re looking for revenue then it’s possible to see success in the short term.
Anyways, your content can go viral on those platforms but it’s unlikely. Your best bet is to unlock search traffic.
For this to work with a relatively new website, it’s essential that you do keyword research right.
You can use a tool like Ahrefs ($99/m or a $7 for 7 day trial), and plug in the domains of your competitors.
Find low hanging fruit and write content around it. Epic content. Concise content. Useful content.
Once you’ve created it, share it in the usual places and boost it on Facebook. This is for social proof. Choose the PPE objective to get likes.
Once you have 100+ shares, reach out to relevant website for a link or guest post opportunity.
I prefer the guest post route because you can link to more than one article and it improves your profile.
At the same time, look for other bloggers you can partner with. As you write a guest blog post, you link to them and vice versa.
Depending on how many partners you have. 1 guest post can yield multiple links. This is the strategy we’re using and have generated 50+ quality links a month and we’re starting to crush it in the serps.
