Poe
Simple, beautiful note-taking app.
📝 Revisited typography and simplified interface even more (if it was even possible)
💾 Notes are now autosaved as soon as the first character is typed, as opposed to typing at least 5 words
🖱 The sidebar (where you can access your saved notes) has a more predictable behaviour on desktop (move the mouse towards the left side of the window)
☎️ The sidebar finally works on tablets and phones! (Just tap to the left of the writing area)
Next up:
❶ Add toast to notify the user that his/her notes are now being saved
❷ Add formatting!! (This will be a big one, think markdown, but way better, easier and faster)
Ps: you can follow me on Twitter or subscribe to Poe's Notes (https://buttondown.email/poe) if you want to be notified about the next steps
I have been obsessed with the idea for years, and finally, within two sleepless nights, I was able to start the project, design, code and launch the app.
Learnt along the way:
-
You need really, really little to start. Much less than your brain thinks. Just go with the inspiration.

I'm fast.

Honestly, this is pretty cool. I love that all you see is 'start typing... ' That minimalist interface is very appealing. When I type notes the idea is to get ideas out of my head with minimal effort( like pencil and paper). Great first effort!

Precisely. Your pencil and paper analogy is really good: you open the notebook and start writing, that’s it.
Thank you for the feedback!

Nice! :-) I am also working on a writing app and just recently launched it. How do you save notes?

IndexedDB. Nothing fancy so far :)
Eventually I’ll have to use a server for the opt-it sync functionality, and IndexedDB has memory limits, but it’s not a concern in this moment.I checked out Title by the way, love it, the design, and the idea!

Thanks for checking it out! And cool, I actually meant how to do it in the UI (I read the other comments though; didn't realize it happens automagically :P)
Nice launch though! Looking forward to your next milestone! 🔥

Congratulations! 🙌
You've done the hard part -- getting started.
And you've hit the nail on the head -- it often takes a lot less than you think to just get the ball rolling.-

Yesss exactly!
And thank you :)

Looks so nice dude! So clean and professional.
Is there going to be any plans to save notes?

Thanks! Please note: it's an EXTREMELY alpha stage. But the notes are already automatically saved, locally on your browser, as soon as you hit 5 words.
Move you mouse towards the left of the screen to access saved notes ;)

That's a nice feature! It would be cool to have some kind of "save status" icon/text to give the user better feedback that this is happening. Really nice looking app overall!

I was thinking that! Sorry I didn't mean my comment to come across rude or anything!
It's so awesome - love the simplicity! 💪🏻 I'm going to follow your progress, great! Connect with me on Twitter!

About
We are heading in 2020 and there is still not one well designed, minimal but powerful note-taking app that can sync between a Mac and an Android phone. I'm solving that now.

Nice! Excited to see what features come next. I think the UX is much more intuitive now!
I'm glad you feel that way too!
Looking good!
thanks 🙏
Nice, you could use Service workers to allow the app to work offline
In my plan I'll eventually build native apps, but a PWA could be a good solution for browsers as well!
This is looking brilliant!! Very nice. Didn't think it could get better looking after the last time I saw 🤣
Haha thanks! It's still so rough though
Good to have a place to build on! Incredible! I'll likely use this!
