Pointo
Minimalist Voice Diary & Journal
Had a lot of fun developing some Halloween features for our minimalist voice diary app Pointo! It's sort of an experiment with seasonality.
If you're wondering, yes, it was quite a lot of work. And we (stupidly) we had the idea kind of last minute, so pulled off a mini-Hackathon this last weekend.
I'll update with news on what impact it had on the app stats!
You can check out the look and features here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.pointo
Yesterday our minimalist voice diary app Pointo passed 5000 downloads on the Play Store, we're thoroughly thrilled!
- We've been working on adding more features, such as mood tracker, passcode lock, and backup/sync.
- I've also experimented with the visuals on the Google Play Store.
I can highly recommend experimenting if you already have some traffic for your app (it may not work as well in the beginning when you have few users).

We recently connected Pointo to Google Analytics to get better visibility into how people use the app. We learn 150 people use Pointo daily, with a pretty good engagement of 4+ min/day!
Lesson learnt: Analytics can be a pain to implement but they are definitely worth it.

As of today, more than 3500 people have downloaded Pointo. It's been an amazing journey, I still remember the times when I saw the first few users come in, one by one.
Some products take off immediately, Pointo was not one of them, but we keep snowballing it forward, and improving as we go along.

I was thinking about the first day at school, when our teacher recorded every child in the class reciting a poem. A memento to keep alongside your childhood memories. I thought that sound is so powerful for remembering moments in our lives, and unlike pictures that tell you everything, sound lets your imagination create the memory. So the idea for Pointo was born.

Only recently in human history did we start taking photos and videos of what happened in the past. What would it feel like to keep our memories in sound? We made Pointo to remember the sounds and voices of our life.
