Polygonjs
node-based WebGL design tool
I've worked on different variations of the landing page. The goal was always to keep it minimalist and to the point, but I always felt it lacked dynamism.
And I realized it was lacking an intro video, so I took the time to create a 3D scene and do a timelapse of how one would edit it. That show cases briefly how one would edit materials, particles or simply navigate inside the 3D scene.
And the good thing is that you can click on the button just above the video "Live Demo" to try that scene 3D scene!
Next step would be to add even more pretty examples, but that will come in the following weeks.
Learning any new app can be daunting for newcomers, and that's even more true for a 3D app that offers many possibilities.
So it's about time to give Polygonjs a proper https://polygonjs.com/docs.
One of the difficult thing is that I have to make it fun to go through. It has to feel dynamic.
And the great thing is that I can use Polygonjs itself for that. Since it is designed to run in the browser, I can simply have interactive examples right in the docs.

3 at the same time, but not all full time, thankfully.
And they are still not official subscribers to the "Enterprise" plan, just freelancing clients, but that still shows how Polygonjs remains a good selling argument.
That said, I start to learn about time management as well! And it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. So let's breath and enjoy the journey.

A good way to approach a new year is to release your work for every body to use, share and contribute to!
And given the myriad of free software I use on a daily basis, like threejs, rails, vuejs and many others, it's only fair to give back.
But another reason it's important for me that the core of Polygonjs is open source is that a 3D app will never be able to do everything. It must be designed so that others can extend it easily. So open sourcing it was the way!

I wrote here about how to view your freelancing clients as Enterprise client, but that's a mindset I only got in late 2020.
So it's not like this first client actually signed up for en "Enterprise" plan, there was no such thing then, and I had no plan to offer one.
So this is only something I can think of in hindsight.
But they were my first client for which Polygonjs was a selling point, and for which I was actively using and developing it.
And since the service I provided for them is the same as the one I offer now via Polygonjs Enterprise plan, I consider them as the first in that group!

After 10+ years of working in visual effects for film, I wanted to diversify and got a few freelancing gigs doing WebGL work.
While still technically still computer graphics and 3D, the process to create interactive 3D websites is very different than for film.
But after a few projects, I realized that things where probably unnecessarily difficult. The main reason that was the case, is that there was simply no software as powerful as the ones we use in film.
So I thought I should give a try to create a software that brings what I learned working on all those films, to the world of web design.
