January 13, 2020 PopDo was featured by Apple

What a pleasant surprise when I summoned my Mac out of sleep and found a notification dot in the Mac App Store dock icon. I opened to what it was about, and there was PopDo in the "Apps and Games We Love Right Now” section. I was so ecstatic I didn’t know what to do next. So I just sat there for a long time looking at it, hoping some people all around the world would click the Purchase button.

January 9, 2020 Got my first 5-star rating

Yay! Got my first 5-star rating on the Mac App Store for PopDo. I hope there are more to come ☺️. I can’t tell right now from which country the user is, but most sales came from Germany or USA, so statistically must have come from there…

The outlook for PopDo is still uncertain. Since launch there have been sales every day, but they seem to be stagnating. I could be happy with 2 sales per day on average if it sales finally flattened. That would total around $420 after the Apple 30% cut and almost free of local taxes.

There’s still a lot of work to be done marketing-wise, such as getting more traction after getting approved in Beta List and Beta Page. As it is a young product, I might be expecting too much of it, but I need the income to further develop it.

Congrats! We are going to launch on Mac App Store soon and are so nervous as we never created a Mac app before! This platform is so less crowded compared to its mobile counterpart and I think it got a lot of potential for indie makers like us :). Will definitely try out PopDo as replacement for Microsoft To-do (anciently Wunderlist) as it becomes more and more slow.

Thank you :) It is indeed less crowded, but you still need a ton of marketing to get somewhere. I would advise you to launch on as many social platforms at once, to get the initial kickstart.
I launched without a trial option and lots of people asked for a trial, don’t make the same mistake I did.

What’s your app about, if you can tell?

Thanks for the advice! We are actually going to “soft” launch and will only communicate with existing users. Our app is basically a safari extension (now safari extension has to be inside a mac app) that allows to create random emails (or alias as we call in our product SimpleLogin :) ) quickly.

That’s very useful for registering to those “evil" sites that require an email just to continue using the site (sigh!), without giving away your real email. I hope it all goes well with your launch!

Thanks! SimpleLogin could also help managing emails with your own domain (this feature is a bit hidden as we want to focus on the general public first), could be very useful for indie makers! Hope one day I would be able to launch this as a separate product.

Sales stagnation is also correlated to unique visitor traffic to my website. It is diminishing daily at a rate of 1/2 of previous day, back to where it was before launch.

January 6, 2020 Got my first few sales 😁

Though I expected more sales, I think the lack of trial did influence user behaviors. I’m working on a couple fixes before adding a trial option for download so I can get more traction.

I think it was a mistake on my part to not add a trial before launching. With my previous product I launched with a trial option, but this time I wanted to test how sales went without trial.

Evidently some people thought that PopDo looks looked interesting enough and the price acceptable that they purchased it without testing it first. On social platforms, some people asked for a trial, so there was interest in the product, but it is normal for people to not commit with their wallet unless they are certain. I know I mostly do.

January 4, 2020 Released PopDo to the Mac App Store

After a couple months of full time work on PopDo, I finally finished version 1.0 with the set of features I wanted/needed. I set to launch on Mon 6, but couldn’t wait any longer so launched on Sat 4… I hope this launch is successful.

I still need to launch on Product Hunt and Hacker News. I already submitted the product to Beta List and Beta Page.
