May 3, 2025 Big thank you to the Indie Hackers community 🙏

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone here.

I’ve been working solo on portalpal, a tool to help freelancers create simple, branded client portals. It’s been a journey full of second-guessing and overthinking, but the feedback, support, and encouragement I’ve found here has made a huge difference.

This is one of the few places on the internet where it feels totally normal to be figuring things out in public. I really appreciate the people who take the time to share advice, offer feedback, or just show up with honesty.

If you’re building something too, I’d love to hear what you’re working on.

Cheers

May 1, 2025 Today’s a big day — I’m officially launching PortalPal, a tool I’ve been building solo over the past few months.

As a freelancer, I always found it frustrating to keep clients updated. I’d cobble together Notion pages, emails, or Google Docs just to say, “Here’s what’s done.” It worked, but it felt messy and unpolished.

I wanted something simpler. Cleaner. Something that made me look like I had it together — even when I didn’t.

So I built PortalPal. It lets freelancers and agencies create branded client portals in just a couple of minutes. You can share:

  • Project overviews

  • Milestones and progress

  • Files and links

  • Time-stamped updates

No logins. No setup. Just a link you can send to your client that looks good and keeps them in the loop.

It’s free to try. Here’s a live example if you want to check it out:

If you work with clients, I’d love your feedback — or just a good roasting.
Thanks to everyone who helped me stay motivated to get this far 🙏

The fact it needs no login and sign up takes care of a certain level of friction. Welldone mate. The UI looks good too.

Have you shared this on LinkedIn too?

Looks great! Definitely a lot of features that freelancers will find useful. Maybe consider a chat/comment section where the clients can comment on progress or items in the portal? Probably allow the freelancer to turn them on and off.

About

I built PortalPal because keeping clients updated as a freelancer was always messy and time-consuming. I wanted something simple and professional to share progress, files, and milestones without jumping between tools.
