Post Parrot

A free marketing tool for reddit

January 21, 2023 Do you market online? Could you critique this flow?

I've been working on Post Parrot, an app that helps users come up with engaging post titles for subreddits. I'm now looking to expand the idea to be more useful for those marketing in online spaces. I would love to hear your thoughts on how this flow could be made more useful!

New Flow

  1. Choose where you plan to post (Reddit, Hackernews, LinkedIn)
  2. Choose your audience (Subreddit and/or domain keywords)
  3. Post Parrot finds posts that were successful on the platform, with your target audience, in your domain and generates several prompts for you (The prompts are there to help you position what your posting about)
  4. Finally you enter your post title
  5. Post Parrot does final tweaks for engagement
  6. Post Parrot tells you the best time to post
  7. Post Parrot gives you the option to schedule your post so you can fire and forget about it

What do people think about this expanded workflow? Useful? Useless?

November 3, 2022 Rewritten Prompting Strategy

Previously, https://postparrot.xyz would look at the most popular posts in a subreddit and generate a title to match.

This worked well sometimes but not consistently.

I've totally rewritten how it works on the backend to generate more relevant results more consistently.

I'm hoping some people will give it a try (it's free!) and tell me if it works for them.

Thanks!

October 27, 2022 New Pricing, New Funnel UX

The only way I was finally able to get visibility on what was wrong with my pricing strategy before was to map it out.

Before

Bad Funnel

After

Better Funnel

Without realizing it, I was basically mapping user friction points.

Historically, the only way I thought of getting more conversions was to spend weeks or even months developing a feature– and then spend a day or two posting about it.

This is my first time focusing solely on my UX/Funnel to improve conversions. I guess it's a bit of an experiment for me.

Have a look at the updated https://postparrot.xyz and let me know what you think!

Thanks @ajpicard25 for the suggestions! I implemented the pricing table like you suggested. I feel like it's a great way to make purchasing feel like a choice and not an obligation.

Awesome let me know if it changes anything!

October 24, 2022 My Pricing Strategy is Broken: Looking for help!

https://postparrot.xyz had a better launch than expected on PH. However we haven't had anyone purchase credits.

I'm hoping someone on Indie Hackers can give me advice about improving the pricing model.

How it works now:

When you arrive at the site, you're given 2 free credits to try the app

unauth

After you try the app twice, you're told how much it costs to purchase more credits and that you have to log in to purchase more credits

no more IP credits

Once you're logged in, you get 3 free credits per month, so you no longer see the information about buying credits

Logged in

Until you've used all 3 credits for the month, then you see the form

logged in, out of credits

Something's Off 🤔

I can tell that this flow is convoluted, but I don't have a lot of experience choosing the right conversion flow. Does anyone have suggestions for how I could improve this?

Curious... why do you think the flow is off? Are people not purchasing more tokens? Have you thought about the following?

    1. Maybe people don't think it's worth purchasing more tokens for the price it's at?
    2. Maybe people are ok with getting just the 3 tokens free per month
    3. Ever think about adding different price tears? What about an option to buy tokens for $0.99?

Are people not purchasing more tokens?

      That's correct.

Thank you for the suggestions! I had not considered lowering the price or pricing tiers. I was considering removing the 3 free monthly tokens. Perhaps some combination of those three is the right strategy.

Would love to hear how it's going in a month or so. Hit me up on twitter if you can! My handle is @picacardanycard

October 18, 2022 Mid–day Launch Notes

Launch Dashboard

12 hours into my Product Hunt launch and 40+ upvotes 🎉

I'm not in the top 10 spot but given that my Twitter audience is pretty small and https://postparrot.xyz/ is somewhat-niche, I'm counting this launch as a success.

Things I learned so far:

  • Don't categorize your product on Product Hunt as Free if it should be in Paid with Free Options. People can get a little salty about that.
  • Having some metrics for a user funnel is so much more helpful than page views (Posthog has been great for this, see pic below).
  • I should expect the percentage of conversions to drop a little bit during a launch. With more people seeing the product– especially in the context of other products– it's safe to assume that the average visitor will be slightly less interested in your pitch.
  • This one is a bit obvious but Feedback is King. The suggestions I got on IH over the past couple of days really improved the app.

In an earlier post, I mentioned that this app took about 2 weeks from ideation to launch. Even though I haven't had any sales yet today, and it's possible Post Parrot may never turn out to be a Cash Cow 🙃, I'm pretty excited by some evidence that I'm getting better at building and sharing.

Thanks again to people on IH who helped me tweak this before the launch!

Here's a pic of the funnel I setup in Posthog which has given me pretty solid visibility in terms of potential conversions.

Upvoted, looks like you're doing well. Happy to see you implemented my anonymous UX idea. How's it working out for you?

      Thank you for the upvote!
The anonymous UX is everything. Thank you for that advice. Going to make sure I offer an anonymous trial in all my apps in the future.

October 16, 2022 Two Weeks from Idea to Launch

I have a lot of weaknesses. For example, I'm not very business savvy. I'm also not a great copywriter or designer.

One thing I am good at, however, is building things.

So I'm playing to my strengths, and trying to "tighten the loop" between idea and execution.

My first app took me a year to turn into a product. My second app took me 2 months to develop and I've yet to launch it.

I built Post Parrot over the past 2 weeks because I struggle with writing good titles when I post on Reddit (...I'm really not good at copywriting 🙃).

At first I was just going to build the app for myself, but then I thought, "Why not build it for everyone?" and practice building & launching in the process.

With all that said, my Product Hunt launch is planned for Tuesday, and I'd love to get some feedback on the app before then. Check it out!

Adding the minimum number of characters to the input and the 'credit' explanation would be great. Apart from that, having such a simple website is great – it makes my head clear.

      Great suggestions. Thank you!

Fix the URL, it leads to 404. Glad to see you modified your homepage after my feedback yesterday. You move fast!

October 15, 2022 AI for Reddit Marketing

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a new project and I'm really excited to share it with all of you.

It's called Post Parrot, and it's a tool that uses AI to generate post titles tailored to succeed in a specific subreddit.

I built this because I found myself spending a lot of time thinking of post titles, and I wanted to see if AI could help me out.

It's been really helpful so far, and I'm excited to see what you all think of it.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

    I like it!
Try to let people create 3 titles without making them sign up. I don't know how good the tool performs, so signing up for a site I've never heard about is tricky.

Consider adding a blog and write a few articles about titles you wrote using this tool. Aim for a few examples of posts that went viral with titles generated by this tool

    1. 1

      Solid advice. Thank you!

I just made it possible to generate 3 titles without logging in. Hopefully that will lower friction 🤞

      1. 2

You're fast! I tried it now. Pretty solid!
Your design is good now for the introduction phase. Consider changing it in a few weeks. The main focus should be around getting people to generate their first title. all the explanation on the left is good, but after I read it once, it's not something I need to read again, so it takes a lot of space for only one usage.

Try to redesign the right side https://i.imgur.com/KRsajQc.png

        few options (structure-wise):
        https://www.wix.com/tools/title-generator
        https://www.semrush.com/title-generator/

And as I said before, the most important thing IMO is to build a blog, and show a few examples of titles generated by this tool that went viral.

        Good luck!!

    1. I like the UI/UX
    2. A bit annoyed that I had to sign in, but whatever.
    3. Works pretty well!

However sadly I don't think I have this pain point.

    1. 1

      This is great feedback. Thanks!
I wish I knew a strategy for tracking user credits that didn't involve signing in. I know that creates a lot of friction for people.

Thanks for trying it out 🙏

      1. 2

For my app I use ip addresses for tracking non-logged-in people.

        1. 1

I was always worried that people would use a VPN to change their IP to get more free credits– maybe I'm overthinking it 😅

          1. 1

Yeah people certainly do that, but based on my users it's less than 1% of users who do that.

Personally I feel it's better to provide a non-logged in UX and then incentivise users to sign up. But I might be wrong :)

            1. 1

Given the success of your product I think you're onto something :) Thank you for the advice! Going to see if I can implement that before the ProductHunt launch on Tuesday

              1. 1

Thanks! But maybe the product would convert better if I disabled the anonymous UX.

Posting on Reddit is a great way to get early users for a product, but it's hard to get attention for your posts. Post Parrot helps adjust your titles to target specific subreddits.
