Automated weather trading bot for Kalshi prediction markets
I am a 60 year old Senior Data Engineer with 30 years of software experience. I spent three decades building enterprise data pipelines, Fivetran connectors, and Snowflake architectures for large companies.
I kept telling myself I would build a side project someday. Someday kept moving.
In March 2026 I finally stopped waiting.I noticed that weather contracts on Kalshi prediction markets were consistently mispriced. Most traders guess on daily temperature markets. But the GFS ensemble weather model runs 31 separate forecast simulations every 6 hours. When all 31 agree and the market price has not caught up yet, that gap is a real edge. So I built a bot to find it automatically. The bot pulls GFS ensemble data via the free Open-Meteo API, scores each Kalshi temperature market on ensemble confidence, model agreement, and fee efficiency, and places trades 24/7 without any manual intervention.
I packaged the full Python source code as a $67 digital product on Gumroad and launched it in March 2026. Here are the honest numbers so far:
- 8 sales in the first two weeks- $542 in revenue- Zero paid ads- All organic from Reddit, TikTok, and Product Hunt
What actually worked:
Reddit comments more than posts. Leaving genuine technical replies on prediction market threads drove more traffic than any launch post.
TikTok videos showing the bot running, not selling the product. The video titled "building this system" got 1,499 views organically. Being specific and honest about losses, not just wins. Prediction market traders can smell fake screenshots from a mile away. What I would do differently:
Start the website earlier. predictandprofit.io launched three weeks after the product. I lost SEO time. The product: predictandprofit.io
Use code INDIEHACKERS for 15% off.
Happy to answer any questions about the technical architecture, the trading strategy, or what it is like launching a side project at 60.
About
I spent 30 years building enterprise data systems for other people and kept telling myself I would build something for myself someday. I finally did. Prediction markets have a real inefficiency in weather contracts.
