June 25, 2024 Got the 1st & 2nd customers

It's been 3 days since I launched https://premiumdomainwatch.com and I'm happy to see the service is starting to get some initial traction.

Currently I am in the process of posting about the website on Twitter/X and submitting it to directories like BetaList and adding updates like this on IndieHackers.

So far I got two clients. The first is an ex-client and friend I explained the idea and he wanted to check if he could get a better domain name for his startup and support me as well.

The second came out of the blue the next day.
I feels great to see that the product you build is helpful to others.

PremiumDomainWatch allows you to monitor premium or registered domains FOREVER and get notified when the domain becomes available or something changes.

Add a monitor for your ideal domain and no matter when it becomes available you will be notified. Simple yet powerful.

Next steps:

  • spread the word by posting it in multiple places
  • maybe add some privacy focused analytics
  • talk to users and plan for new features

June 22, 2024 Turning a $93,000 Domain into a Bargain

A while back, I started a rebranding process of my software development agency.
After a lot of brainstorming we found the perfect name for it. However the .com domain was not available so we had to settle for the a .io, which I was perfectly ok with too.

The .com domain was owned by a local marketing company, primarily for deploying test e-commerce websites for their clients, indicating it wasn’t their main identity. I decided to monitor the domain, hoping it wouldn’t be renewed or try to negotiate for it in the future.

To my disappointment, the domain was renewed for another year. However, I remained vigilant, checking again after the next renewal period. When the domain finally expired, I discovered that it enters a 45-day grace period during which the owner can still renew it. After this period, the domain was available—but as a premium domain priced at an astronomical $93,000, far beyond our budget.

Not all premium domains retain high prices indefinitely. They often fluctuate based on demand. In my case, the price dropped from $93,000 to $811 and eventually to $12 when it was no longer marked as premium.

Recognising this trend, I developed a service to help others avoid the same pitfalls I encountered. The service monitors the domain you’re interested in and notifies you of any status changes, allowing you to secure it at your desired price point without constantly checking and potentially raising interest.

Even if the domain is already registered, our service ensures you're the first to know if it expires, its registration status changes, it becomes available as a premium domain, its price changes, or it becomes available for normal registration.

Add a monitor for your ideal domain and we'll let you know as soon as it becomes available: https://premiumdomainwatch.com

I needed a tool that I could set up once to track my ideal domain names and get notified when availability or price changes so I can get them at a bargain price or be the first to book a discontinued domain.
