April 29, 2020 Got an article, formed a small team, 1500 sign-ups

In February and March i focused on marketing activities.
My wife designed a new logo, I integrated a crisp.chat and I even was in the local newspaper!
Due to marketing, I found several like-minded people that are computer scientists and want to help me building this project. Cool! We are working together now via slack and the project proceeds faster than ever before.
Marketing also increased the number of sign-ups (free plan). Now eager for the paid plan to see, what people really are willing to pay for it.

February 11, 2020 Improved SEO led to 200 users finally

After improving my landing page with all the tips from Indiehackers.com (including using SSR with gatsbyjs.org, SEO optimization with SEMrush.com and Seobility.net) I saw an increased organic traffic (started with the german variant, the international variant will follow in the same manner).

This led to 200 registered and validated beta users on my app prepper-app.com recently. I am really happy! Also integrated upvoty.com to prioritize feature requests better.

My engagement in marketing however also brought up a very similar app which is free, open source and intended for self hosting. They just do no marketing, which is why I did not find them earlier.
I am wondering whether there are opportunities to work together, just wrote the founder an e-mail.

Hey Matthias, can you help me understand how you used seobility please? i have the tool, but can't figure out for the life of me what I can do with it or how to optimize with it.

Hi! First time I used it made me clear, that ranking on position 1 is useless, if nobody searches for this keyphrase.
I get regular updates which are the most important keyphrases to optimize for and see the impact.
It also gives hints about optimizing page structure and content.

did you use anything to learn the tool? I have my website address in my project, but don't know what the next step I should take with it. once you know the keywords that are being used, how are you using them? do you have a blog built to your site?

August 31, 2019 New MVP live!

After 3 month of coding I got the beta of the new web app live to collect customer feedback. The web app is completely based on firebase which made things easy. However the existing iOS app (since 2013) is still in the store and yet no way for existing customers to migrate.
You can find it here: Prepper Web App

May 15, 2019 Decision to re-start with Prepper App

After launching the Prepper App for iOS in 2013 for the Appstore (Objective C), in the last years development and marketing stagnated and I just released a few bugfix updates.
Beginning of 2019 I decided to go for the two major feature requests from customers:

  • Synchronisation between different devices (for families) and
  • Android support

This was impossible with my existing objectiveC Code base and several attempts to modernize didn't succeed:

  • Automatically converting it to swift (Just a lot work to do manually and still not fulfilling my needs)
  • Attaching a custom PHP backend to the iOS app

So I decided to give modern web development techniques a try: ReactJS, Redux, and Firestore.
The most I got out of this udemy course which directly fitted my needs. Happy developing!

In 2013 I found a lot of food had gone bad at my home. I did not find an app helping with this back then. So this is for preppers that need help with food storage management.
