My younger brother, an IT Major, came back from college for a weekend. He asked if I knew how to scrape data from a website. I told him yes, and pulled out a colab notebook I created years ago.

We then proceeded to scrape data from a popular car marketplace in South Africa, using python. The goal was to investigate the relationship between price and mileage, and whether we could predict price based on mileage.

We then wanted to share these insights we generated, so we created a streamlit web app so other non technical people could use the tool.

The tool was used by a lawyer at a family law firm to calculate the value of vehicles for a divorce. It was helpful but she did not need to use it everyday.

The group of users who do encounter the problem every day are used car dealers, and that's who we are targeting now.
