Printable Calendar 2025

Hey Indie Hackers!

I'm Yuhao, a solo developer, and I'm excited to share a personal project I've been working on: Printable Calendar 2025 ([https://printablecalendar2025.xyz](https://printablecalendar2025.xyz)) - a source for free, high-quality printable calendars.

Why Build This?

This project started for two main reasons:

1. Learning & Practice: I wanted a real-world project to deepen my skills in web development, backend scripting (Python), and design principles.

2. Providing Value: I noticed it can sometimes be tricky to find simple, well-designed printable calendars online without sign-ups or low-quality PDFs. I aimed to create a straightforward, genuinely free resource for the community.

The Tech Stack & Process

Building this involved diving into a few key technologies:

* Backend/PDF Generation: Python was the core. I used the powerful ReportLab library to programmatically generate the PDF calendars, which allowed for precise control over layout and quality. The `holidays` library was essential for accurately including US holidays.

* Previews: To give users a good look before downloading, I used `pdf2image`, Pillow, and the Poppler utility to automatically generate PNG previews (including that 12-month grid for the yearly overview!).

* Frontend: Kept it simple with static HTML, CSS, and a bit of JavaScript for interactivity.

* Hosting: Currently hosted on Vercel for easy deployment and speed.

Challenges & Learnings:

* Getting the table layouts exactly right in ReportLab, especially with varying month lengths and dynamic holiday text, took some trial and error.

* Automating the preview generation, particularly stitching the 12 pages into a grid, was a fun challenge involving Pillow.

* Realized the importance of offering both Sunday and Monday start options based on typical US preferences vs. other standards.

What Printable Calendar 2025 Offers:

The site provides completely free 2025 calendars with:

* Clean, practical designs

* High-resolution PDF downloads

* Multiple formats: Monthly (Sun/Mon start, Landscape, Notes), Yearly (One-page, Month-per-page)

* US holidays included

* No registration required!

Future Plans?

I plan to keep the site running smoothly and possibly add more templates (like different themes or maybe academic year calendars) based on feedback and time. I also plan to incorporate unobtrusive ads to help support the hosting costs.

Seeking Your Feedback!

As fellow makers and users, I'd love to get your thoughts:

* How's the website navigation and ease of use?

* What do you think of the calendar designs and formats?

* Are there any other calendar styles or features you'd find useful?

Thanks for reading and for any feedback you can provide!

Cheers,

Yuhao
