Text-to-CAD, AI-CAD. CLAUDE.CAD
It was February of 2025. I'm in one of my 2 bays and while crouched, My right hip gave out. Its saturday, I dont even need to be at the dealership. But Flatrate life. A family to feed and dreams to chase. I had been having left knee issues a year now, 29, hip just popped and can barely use it. Im out of work for a month MINIMUM. Bored. Adhd. Loosing my mind. I hear about claude. Ai. I download claude and im instantly hooked. This 'robot' acts talks and seems human but obviously inst, and hes just firing off these crazy ideas. Crazy to me, sane to it. So I ask if it can produce 3d geometry i can 3d print. It cant. Neither can meshy claude says. I realized, that's a HUGE MARKER GAP. In absolute disbelief I asked claude how hard it is to make. He confirms ine of the hardest things to do is code cad from scratch. He backs it up with "Opencascade tool years with teams Of PhDs. Your just an automotive tech. Your looking at years of learning before you even perform your first line of code. You need cad knowledge, coding skills etc... it says "people die before achieving that type of skillset". At that moment, if I drank, I should have said "Hold my beer watch this." One question leads to another. Next thing you know im knee deep in 'Following the Dopamine'. Buikding a Ubuntu server from a 2016 Dell desktop h600 that had windows 10 on it. Mind you ive never Tinkered with Pcs or anything of that. Im an automotive technician so at most I tinker woth car parts amd wiring not coding modules. It was a fun month off.
I return to work late March. I'm sad I have to return as i really didnt give myself breaks. 2 bays, working 7am-sometimes 9pm. Every single day monday through saturday. I burnt myself out. Bad. But kept going. The day I returned to work my favorite service manager comes up to me before I evem make it to my toolbox. We talk to my bays, hes eager as hell. He says "Nick your back! How you feeling? How's the leg? Stellantis sent you something while you were out. And nick ive never seen stellantis corporation send a tech something TO THE DEALER and hes been doing this 15 years or longer. So I open it. What I found probably would make most the happiest they've been in a long time, and for some reason it killed me. I was awarded top 2000 technicians in the united states of the year 2024, for MOPAR from Stellantis of North America. I did NOT know about this program nor try to reach it. And instead of being happy I was miserable. Still in pain. And stellantis is sending me a stool that says top 2000 techs knowing dang well techs dont sit down EVER half the time we eat covered in ur cars fluids. Because flatrate. Its a race against the clock and ai-set time standards for repairs. Now im not one to toot my own horn. But I didnt need a corporate telling my im excellent at my job. I knew that and never bashed others and remained humble. I gave this place 3 years, the best performance they'd ever see, they're company logo is literally about testing others like family. Yet when I showed up with 20k in cash for a new cer because mine was rotted out, they wouldn't give me an employee discount, and held the car from me for 2 weeks. When I finally had enough and quit they put my 25k toolbox full of easily 60k worth of tools in jt in a parking lot of a dealership exposed to new england weather. Snapon ended up contacting me to TELL Me. So I made a deal with myself. Im done working for others.
So I pivot. I jump back on that idea of cad and ai together. I get out the shower one morning see a google ad about "ai orchestrating", chuckle and say to myself "I've been doing this with claude.ai and claude code. But since google confirms its legit and they discovered transformers, whatd i have to loose? i'm jobless, out on TDI for mental health. My therapist literally ghosted me twice causing my tdi to stop. So I picked up on self teChing myself ai orchestration a lot further than an os swap and seever build. However im new, not fully knoeldvable. I eventually make an ai diagnostic vehicle health monitor using my domain knowledge. But the market entry is ridiculously unreasonable to enter for automotive. So I pivot to a projevt i secretly had been working on through testing prompt engineering. I had secretly been building a c++17 Cad kernel through a very "sophisticated" manual ai-chat loop process i intuitively built on accident. It became my workflow. The cad kernel and pybind11 bindings themselves are still being integrated. And im 10 times the architect i was a year ago..that said printmakerai.com is a direct result of never giving up, believing in yourself, and quite honestly? Pushing yourself past your capabilities. Rome wasnt built in a day. I come from a background of what claude.ai considers "high achievers". My dad was super intendant of weekapaug golf course which my grandfather built and it became one of the top 30, 9 hole course in the WORLD. My papa migrated from.calabria and built by hand the course. My other papa was 2nd Lt on USS Lake Champlian and was part of the recovery mission for Alan J Shepard jr. Then single handedly fought the entire exter town council, to ALLOW JOB CORPS TO OPEN. He firmly believed every kid deserves a 2nd chance.
About
PrintMakerAI exsists for 2 reasons and I cant type it all out. Market gap. I didnt feel like spending 2 years learning fusion 360. 2ndly no ai on the market does parametric CAD other than ones charging an arm an2legs.
