May 31, 2020 Reached 500 visitors mark!

Within a week of the launch over 500 people have visited the website. I also received a couple of requests from makers to feature their privacy-focused apps on the website. It is good to see how this project is shaping up. Planning to bring more features and apps to the website.

May 26, 2020 Got featured on Hackernoon

The blog post I wrote about the making of my weekend project has been accepted and published on the front page of Hackernoon yesterday.

Honestly, when I wrote it, I never thought it would be accepted by Hackernoon. I'm receiving a ton of good exposure and learning from this small project

May 25, 2020 Launched on ProductHunt

On the morning of May 25th, Privacyfirstapps.com was launched on Producthunt. It was a great experience launching my product. Even though it did not get a lot of upvotes, I learned a lot as I prepared for the launch. I also learned a ton on what to fix during my next launch.

May 22, 2020 Crossed the 100 visitor Mark

I posted about the website on my side project subreddit and the Indie Hackers team was kind enough to tweet about my project on their Twitter handle. It got some good initial traction and also introduced me to a couple of makers who are working privacy-focused app projects

Karthik, I just submitted my app. This is great. Did you launch in PH?

Thank you for the submission, Wilson. I looked at the app. It is a really cool idea. However, one of the criteria I have is, the app/service should at least have a minimal free plan. This will reduce friction. The users will keep using it, understand the value at some point, and upgrade to a higher plan. And, I'm launching in ProductHunt in a few hours.

All right. No problem. Best wishes for your launch!.

Thanks, Wilson. All the best to you too! :)

May 16, 2020 Built the MVP

My idea is to have a basic website that has an Airtable base embedded into it. The Airtable base will have the list of apps which users can filter based on category, software platform, and pricing plans.

I finished the MVP within four hours. I had the basic layout of the website with the database embedded in it.

May 15, 2020 Came up with the Idea

I decided to build a database of privacy-focused cloud apps fulfills the following criteria:

  • It should be a privacy-focused alternative to existing apps and services
  • Should offer end-to-end encryption of your data
  • Offer cloud-based sync (cross-platform sync)
  • Easy to set up without the need to learn development skills
  • A decent free plan to get started

About

A majority of the privacy-focused apps are self-hosted and hard to setup. So, I built a curated database of apps that are cloud-based and easy to use.
