PrivateUtils
Privacy-first, client-side tool suite for media and files
Hey IH,
I’ve always been hesitant to use online file converters because I hate the idea of my personal videos or sensitive JSON data sitting on a random server.
So, I built PrivateUtils.com – a suite of 34 tools that process everything locally in the browser using React and FFmpeg WASM.
The Tech Stack:
Frontend: React + Vite
Processing: FFmpeg WASM for media and Web Crypto API for encryption.
The Result: Once the page loads, you can literally turn off your internet and it still converts your files.
The biggest challenge: Handling memory in WebAssembly. I had to implement strict staging limits to prevent browsers from crashing when handling large video files.
I'm currently looking for feedback on the UI and ideas for more tools that people usually hesitate to use online due to privacy concerns.
