Zero-Trust proof of identity with public digital signatures

I can prove my GitHub identity now! https://proof.im/jshawl/on-github/

Everything is still hidden in the app - because I'm sure I've overlooked some security issue that might allow proving any identity. 🙈

So many features to work on in the near future:

  • multiple GH/HN accounts
  • different proof.im handle from HN/GH username.

I'm also starting to share links back a bit more - on twitter, on GitHub, wherever really. This is the most code I've ever written without getting feedback from any users, but this is a scratch-my-own-itch kind of project, so noone to build for but myself.

It's pretty rad. I'd like to focus a little more on education - e.g. why would anyone want to digitally sign anything? Why would they want this signature on the public internet?

I can't stop thinking about an authentication scheme that doesn't know any private information (passwords or private keys).

I really like this idea. Definitely agree that more education in this space can only be a beneficial thing for lay people. I think (with no evidence to back it up), that this is something people care about but don't know that they care about.

Do you have a path to monetisation with this, or is this something that you can comfortably host and maintain yourself? I ask because I think that my main issue is that people use this service, then the service goes away.

    Also, quick typo I noticed:

    cryptographically verifiable proofs of idenity

All the best with this idea!

Thank you! At the moment, I'm able to host without charging anything. I'm not sure I have an idea for monetization yet - I'd really like to avoid subscriptions and see if I can go the donation / fundraising / sponsor route. Thanks for pointing out the typo!

About

I want an open source service that doesn't hold on to any private keys or passwords. I wanted something "unhackable" that proves my identity by linking cryptographically verifiable proofs with public digital signatures.
