March 1, 2018 Tried to raise a seed round.. and failed

I was looking for a way to get my cofounder full time and for me to keep working part time (as a professional athlete) so we could build the product faster. After doing some initial testing and validating hypothesis I convinced myself that ProPlay was going to work.

Even though we were still pre-product, Initially I was very excited about raising money and being able to collaborate with extremely smart people; however, as I got more into the process raising money seemed more and more like a full time job. Most leads didn't end up as anything and I hated arguing with potential investors about market size and what the product was going to do (even though neither of us really didn't know). The entire time I was thinking I should just be working on my business.

Eventually, after 3 months, I broke down emotionally. The loneliness, constant rejection and testing of more aggressive sales techniques took a real toll on my spirit, mind and body. At this point I realized 3 things.

  1. I hated what I was doing
  2. I needed a more sustainable way of growing this business
  3. Tech companies don't need seed money to grow

Yes, money is helpful; however, I felt much more comfortable with proving my idea through hard work and sales rather than salesmanship. So now, my cofounder and I have been bootstrapping and working on V1 (our initial MVP) of our app and will be releasing it sometime in January of 2019.
