Pureskele
Slow Eating Timer for Apple Watch
I've always struggled with eating too fast. I tried existing mindful eating apps, but they felt bloated with calorie tracking, complicated meal logs, and the annoying requirement to keep an iPhone screen active on the dining table.
So I built Pureskele (Finnish for "to chew").
It’s a distraction-free, 100% standalone Apple Watch app that delivers a subtle haptic tap on your wrist every 25 seconds (customizable) to remind you to put your fork down and chew properly.
A few things about the build:
* Runs purely on watchOS using extended runtime sessions (keeps ticking quietly in the background without keeping the screen awake).
* Completely free, no companion iOS app required, zero tracking.

I’d love your thoughts — especially on the haptic feedback feel and whether the interval pacing feels natural during actual meals!
About
I've always eaten too fast, phone in one hand, done before I noticed I'd started. Every "mindful eating" app wanted meal logging or a phone at the table — so I built a silent wrist tap instead.

The standalone Apple Watch approach makes this quite different from the usual mindful-eating apps. Curious how the 25-second haptic rhythm feels during an actual meal.
Thanks!
At first, 25 seconds felt surprisingly long since I was so used to rushing. It forces you to actually wait between bites.
In practice, I treat it more like a gentle reminder than a rigid metronome — if I'm still chewing or talking when it taps, I just skip that beat. After using it myself for the last weeks, I'm actually now thinking 30 or 35 seconds might be an even better default pace.
It's adjustable (10–60s) in the settings. Curious, what kind of pace sounds reasonable to you?
Interesting that your own usage is already changing the default. I’d be happy to continue the conversation — what’s the best email to reach you at?
