August 18, 2020 New Timer App Launched

Today we released an upgrade to our long standing worlds best free workout timer.

This update fully removes ads from the free version, so you can workout without the noise of an ad on your timer. It also paves the way for a watch companion app with our (hopefully) next release.

August 13, 2020 Who Said Gyms Were Dead?

Ran some quick numbers...
5 months into COVID, OVER 1/3 of the gyms on PushPress are MAKING MORE MONEY today than they did in February.

49.9% of our gyms are making at least 90% of their Feb2020 numbers.

If anything COVID is showing the world that everyone's lives depends on fitness to some degree. There's no better place to get fitter, faster than in a community based, group led fitness facility.

Accountability, direction, coaching, motivation... it's all there. Join a group based fitness facility near you today and see the difference.

May 28, 2020 Gave away a ton of money via PushPress Cash Grants

So COVID has really hurt our industry. Boutique Gyms. Much respect to all of our clients (and the industry as a whole) they've really been slogging through this to make the best of things.

And let's be real, their work is more important now than ever. COVID and all diseases pick apart people who are unwell. Fitness studios and gyms are fighting this battle daily - from the ground floor.

So we decided to stand up and stand behind this industry. We launched our own Cash Grant program and gave away a bunch of $500 cash grants to gym owners in need.

Hoping more companies out there (especially in fitness) do the same. SMB / Mom and Pops need it.

November 26, 2019 Launched Our Freemium Product

With a ton of prep and planning, we've launched our Freemium Product Tier.

In our industry, many of our competitors are being swallowed up by Private Equity. That means everyone is squeezing for profit. Raising rates and cutting R&D and Support.

We're going the opposite way. Maybe because we're ex gym owners and hate seeing them getting squeezed. Maybe because when people all go left, we look at what going right might mean.

We're contrarians at heart.

October 31, 2019 Broke $84M Annualized Client Billing

October will close over $7M in client billing for us. Client billing is a key metric we track - as it shows client success.
In our world, our clients (gyms) setup up monthly recurring subscriptions fro their clients (gym members). The more memberships our clients are stacking, the more successful our clients are.

Great news for you and your clients!

Wow this is huge compared to the usual milestones. Congrats!

To be clear this isn’t our direct revenue. This is the amount of money our clients are generating as revenue. But we track as a metric because their success (and growth) is our success.

Yeah I know, but just the fact that you're having such a big impact is amazing.

Thank you! We’ve recently been working on it a bit. Marketing isn’t our strong suit, we’re more product and client focused.

October 25, 2019 Featured on StarterStory

To be honest, we are passionate product people and we don't spend enough time in the community telling our story.

Recently we've come across the concept of "50 coffee meetings in 50 days" and we decided to expand this to "just get your butts out there and meet people, tell your story and listen to theirs".

From this decision, we've done crazy things like... reaching out to people and companies to talk about PushPress. As a result, we've gotten published here on Indiehackers and now, at StarterStory (https://www.starterstory.com/software-for-fitness-centers)

Crazy concept, we know - go out and talk to people... set forth and listen to people... =)

September 25, 2019 ACH Payment Launch

This week we're finally pulling off the bandaid errrrr covers of a project we've legit been working towards for almost 3 years.

While this is significant because it's a major thing many of our clients have been asking for, and it's even more significant because it required us to overhaul our entire billing engine under the hood... this is most relevant for everyone here to understand sometimes things go sideways.

Like many wise people before me have said - a failure is only a failure if you don't learn from it.

We've learned a TON on how NOT to do certain things in this 3-year long project.

I guess what I'd like to make sure owners out there know... you won't make every client happy 100% of the time. Just keep pushing everything forward, in small increments. Don't make big mistakes and correct everything you can. You'll get there!

Happy hump day to you all!

September 13, 2019 Massive success @ annual retreat

We’ve begun following EOS recently, and this year we took our annual hackathon and turned it into a legit team building, core value centric retreat.

Being a largely distributed team, this was really important this year, as our headcount went from 7 last year to 16 this year. We are now at a size where culture can either sink or catapult growing companies.

Here’s a general outline of our retreat if you find your company might benefit from it:

Day 1
Founders welcome speech / 2019 recap / 2020 goals / core value introduction and explanation / core value discussion.

During this speech we also dropped a bomb on them all, breaking them into teams and telling they had 24 hours to think of a world changing product PushPress could build and present a compelling press release for it. This format follows a popular and well documented process amazon employs to stoke innovation.

BBQ at vrbo beachfront rental

Day 2
PRESS RELEASE DAY
Teams got two three hour chunks to work on their press releases. We had a guest ex VP from amazon come by and give guidance to the teams and nudge them in the right directions.

For a short fitness break between those three hour sessions, we did bubble soccer, which was a huge hit with the team. Pun intended.

Press release presentation and dinner out + bar crawl capped the night.

Day 3
Department presentation day
We asked our departments to put together a presentation to share something exciting they’re working on with the team as a whole.

Many times the nuances of each department are missed - and those details can be quite exciting.

For example when engineering showed sales how selenium worked, I saw a few heads explode 😂

Quick beach workout lead by a CrossFit HQ staff trainer. Followed by beach volleyball.

Dinner at a local brewery

Recap

  • the core values presentation and discussion was more important than I realized. It was met really well and I saw so much immediate alignment. This is very important for a scaling team and the impact was literally immediate.
  • Press release day was an amazing experience. It was like a product version of a hackathon. Not a single line of code was written but the effort put into solving bug real world problems was amazing.
  • Playing bubble soccer with a team of really strong athletic / ex-military folks can be a painful experience. 😂
