Pushup Hero
app to track your pushups
V1 is great, but a little rought. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pushup-hero/id1410662331
Excited to start work on version 2. I am going to fix some bugs and release that quickly. Then move onto other features.
Motivation is to work on it a little each day. I want to release v2 at the end of this month.
Just checked the stats on Pushup Hero (https://twitter.com/PushupHero/status/1296520085385879552)
and I was floored to see that it has 3000 sessions in the last 30 days. That means 3000 times someone opened my app to record how many pushups they did.
I had no idea it was doing so well.
Now I need to work on getting the next version of the app out!

66 days after I set my goal to have an App in the App Store in least than a year, I hit my goal.
The app is live. It feels awesome that anyone with an Apple Device in the whole world, can download and use my code.

I got a full alpha version of the app working. You can add pushups, save it, it will save to your device, then when you open the app again, it will load those saved workouts and display them.
The interface is still lacking, but all the functionality is there.

I have buttons that increment and decrement a counter. Things are taking shape.
It is interesting what consistent small progress can do. I just worked on this a little each night and progress started to accelerate.

I decided to have an app in the App Store within a year.
I had a vague idea of what I wanted to build and I just dove into learning Swift to make it happen.
I decided to tweet my journey to give myself accountability and maybe get some downloads.

Wait, this says 2017....so did you do it?
And did you start with zero programming knowledge?-

I did it! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pushup-hero/id1410662331
I would consider myself a very bad programmer. I understood some concepts but I didn't know any Swift.

@joshdance I plan to do something similar. I've started a blog to teach myself to code in 181 days and build an app to launch. Did you find twitter help keep you accountable or was it a distraction? Also, did it help you gain a following and did they convert into downloads?

I found Twitter did help me to be accountable. Directly once. I tweeted about a different project and someone was like 'dude you haven't finished your app yet!' and it was really the kick I needed to get back into it.
I don't know if it helped me build a following. I have hid twitter follower numbers so I didn't track it. :)
I bet some did convert to downloads. I didn't track the download source super carefully.
But I would highly recommend it.

on Oct 3rd in 2012. Was thinking about making an iPhone app, and wanted to track how many pushups I was doing.
Had a friend make a quick design. https://imgur.com/a/rtnM08m
Did some brainstorming on ideas, how to market it, how to get people hooked.
Little did I know it would take me 6 years to actually learn to make iPhone apps. 😲 The finished app here - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pushup-hero/id1410662331

Hi Josh,
First of all, congrats! 🎉
Awesome app! I think I'll have to try it out :)
I have a few landing page templates for mobile apps on my side-project website right now.
I'm also giving out a 25% promo code for all themes this month. Just use "aktdbmz" and the deal is yours :)
I'd love to hear your thoughts! If you have questions, let me know.
nice. Checked it out, wasn't immediately clear how to use the templates? Having a step by step could increase purchases.
Just downloaded btw, very cool!
Love how intuitive it is :)
Great idea! Basically what you do is:
For the templates I showed you in the link, they only take around 5-10 minutes to set up. Even less if you have some content prepared prior to the setup.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I’d be happy to help answer them.
Edit: They are all 100% HTML and CSS. No complex frameworks at all. Once you’re done, you can deploy to a site like Netlify to finish. 🚀
