All six posts are promotional and don't provide value. Your entire marketing strategy is based on saying that you are the good guys and that people shouldn't use the bad guys.

I don't know where this new trend came from (startups that position themselves as the ethical alternative to big brands, maybe the "get a mac" campaign?) but I know for sure one thing: I never see it work for a newcomer.

People have no problem using google, facebook, amazon, youtube etc. They don't see as a problem that their anonymized data are sold and why should they?

This saying "if it's free, you are the customer" is pretty dumb. People have been sold ads for their entire life, at least now they see ads that could be relevant for them.

Another thing that you don't consider. People have more trust in a big brand known for selling data than in a brand they never heard about. And you are implicitly telling them that they are stupid because they accept to have their data sold.

Plus, you collaborate with banks. I know very few kinds of companies that have a lower reputation than banks...

You are positioning yourself to lose.

A bit brutal? Maybe, but I've seen too many times this strategy applied and the results are always the same.

I look at facts, not at what people say they want.

Duckduckgo "the privacy-focused search engine" has an amazing 0.18 market share. I've seen lots of paid email providers, again with the only advantage of being privacy-focused, most of them failed after a few months. What about the privacy-focused social networks? They aren't doing very well too.

If your value proposition is "just like X but privacy-focused" you are going to fail.

Another problem you and "privacy-focused companies" don't consider is that the first threat to data are hackers. Hackers are able to fuck big G and Facebook, they would have no problem doing the same to "new privacy-focused solution". When it happens, because it will if you are a bit successful, your only competitive advantage, weak by itself, is gone. Forever.

Yeah, for sure. In fact, I don't have any social media account and I use big G only for android.

You are the kind of person that loves to judge without knowing nothing and downvotes opinion he doesn't agree with, a long way to say "immature".

You have posted a graph that considers the growth of Duckduckgo and ignores the growth of internet searches as a whole. Not very smart. Their market share growth has been basically flat in the last couple of years. And they are one of the few privacy-focused companies that are successful. They are an exception.

"You are basically saying right now what every company should be the same as G and Facebook". Never said that. I said that if your value proposition is "like x but privacy-focused" you will lose. And by the way, these companies are never like X, I tried most of them and they suck compared to the company they compared themselves too.
