QuickX-Auth
Add authentication to any web app. We unblock awesome.
Gitgrep.com is a hosted variant of the etsy/hound software used in the Proof-of-Concept. The idea worked so well that it should be launched as a product offering in itself.
Quicklog.io used it's own custom implemented authentication mechanism, but lead to the realization that this could be extracted and generalized.

As an experimental test, a simple reverse http proxy was built with Go and put in front of an etsy/hound installation.
The proxy software added two things that the etsy/hound installation did not have:
- HTTPS: TLS security certificate
- username/password login protection
The Login UI was the most vanilla HTML but it did do the job. For a while this proof of concept was merely used to give access to our github code search from outside of our office network. It was not yet conceived that this could be a product in itself.

Many times, I've found open-source software that I want to run for my team. If the software doesn't come with any built in security, I'm pretty much stuck only allowing access from our office IP address via VPN or Auto SSH tunnel.
How many times? Let me see, off the top of my head:
- moinmoin wiki
- etsy/hound
- github.com/jfuerth/board-of-dashed-hopes
The last one's not a joke, it displays (and speaks) Concourse CI pipeline deployment failures.
I don't want to have to make changes for every software package I want to run this way, and it doesn't have to so. Enter QuickX-Auth.

Making apps that do things is fun and exciting. Adding authentication isn't and can slow down launching an awesome new web app. It works like a CDN like CloudFlare, but instead of caching it guards your web application.
