RailsDevs
Reverse job board for Ruby on Rails developers.
I'm excited to announce that RailsDevs will make $150k just 12 months after launch!
October was the best month to date bringing in a whopping $50k. And November is already shaping up to be great with $10k+ in the pipeline.
It's been amazing to see the platform work. I've placed over 30 developers to date!
Here's to the next 12 months. 🥂
This is a huge milestone because it marks the first full-time hire made via the platform.
railsdevs has a 10% hiring fee which netted a whopping $20,000 Stripe invoice!
What's even more exciting is that I know of a few open offers that haven't been accepted yet. Ideally we are looking at a new developer placed every month for the next quarter.

This morning I launched the new pricing model for railsdevs.
v1 was a single, $99/mo plan for full access to the site. Now there are 2 tiers. $99/mo to hire freelance and contract developers and $299/mo to hire full-time developers.
Why? I go into more detail here 👇

How do you handle developers that select looking for "part-time" and "full-time"? Do you restrict the $99 group from accessing users looking for "full-time" work as well?

Currently businesses subscribed to the part-time hiring plan cannot see developers ONLY looking for full-time work. It's not perfect, but it's a tiny step in the right direction.

Today railsdevs broke $1000 in revenue. One month after the first paying customer!
I also had my first (and second) churn in the same week. So, a bittersweet one for sure but a net positive. I spoke to one of the customers that churned and will do the same with the other soon.

Wow, $1000 in a month sounds amazing. You did a great job building in public. Just wanted to know does all your traffic comes from Twitter only?

Thank you! Not all of it – I get a decent amount of traffic from GitHub, too. But I can't say for sure where the paying customers are coming from :)

Congratulations. Finding customers is the hardest part.
What marketing channels are working for you. I see you got so many businesses to subscribe to Railsdev this January

Thank you! Marketing right now is mostly building in public on Twitter. If someone mentions they are hiring I’ll also send them a DM and see if they’re interested.

I was helping someone narrow down their MVP focus via Twitter DMs when they brought up that they needed some Rails help with their project. Many DMs later and they agreed to try railsdevs for a month.
So I sent a custom Stripe invoice (the checkout flow wasn't even built yet). Of course, I forgot to set a subscription so I had to resend it...
But they paid! $99 later and railsdevs got its first paying customer.

I tweeted that railsdevs had a production server up and running not thinking much of it. A few minutes later a friend with 10,000+ followers tweeted that he added his profile!
This quickly created a tiny buzz in the Rails community. On that day 30+ folks registered for the site. Even with the confirmation email going directly to spam!

On October 21 I made my first commit to the railsdevs repository. Nothing more than a standard rails new installation with "railsdevs" as the name of the app.
To my surprise, later that day someone opened a pull request to add CI via GitHub Actions! This definitely helped solidify my decision to make railsdevs open source.
