Rate My Professors

Choosing a professor is one of the most important decisions students make when building their college schedule, yet it is often one of the decisions made with the least information. A course catalog can tell you what a class covers, how many credits it offers, and when it meets, but it usually cannot tell you what the day-to-day experience of taking that class will actually be like. Will the professor explain difficult concepts clearly? Is the workload manageable? Are exams challenging? Does the professor encourage questions and discussion? How does the professor communicate with students? These are the kinds of questions students often ask before registering for a class.

That is why we’re building Rate My Professors.

Our motivation is to make it easier for students to learn from the experiences of other students. We believe that people who have already taken a course can provide valuable perspective that may not be available through official university resources. By creating a place where students can discover and share professor reviews, we want to make the course-selection process more transparent, accessible, and informed.

We also understand that every student has different expectations and learning preferences. A professor who is considered demanding by one student may be exactly what another student is looking for. Someone who prefers structured lectures may have a very different opinion from someone who enjoys open discussions and independent projects. Because of this, our goal isn't to tell students which professors are “good” or “bad.” Instead, we want to provide useful information and different perspectives so students can make decisions that are right for them.

Rate My Professors is also built around the idea of students helping students. A review may seem like a small contribution, but sharing details about a professor’s teaching style, assignments, exams, grading, workload, and classroom environment can be extremely helpful to someone preparing to take that course in the future. The more students contribute thoughtful and honest experiences, the more useful the community becomes.

At the same time, we believe reviews should be viewed as one source of information rather than the final answer. Students should consider multiple reviews, look for consistent patterns, check how recent the feedback is, and combine student experiences with official course information and their own academic goals. Our role is to make those additional perspectives easier to find.

Ultimately, Rate My Professors exists to give students more information and more confidence when making academic decisions. College is already full of important choices, and we believe choosing a professor shouldn't have to feel like a complete guess. By bringing student experiences together in one place, we hope to create a useful community where students can learn from one another, share what they know, and approach every semester with a little more confidence.
